Have you changed beliefs?

How many have had a change of heart regarding their faith or core values? What prompted the change? What level of proof was needed to overcome your established beliefs? How long did it take you to realign your actions to your new beliefs?

Oh yeah...my change was most dramatic: Catholic to Judiasm. I was raised Catholic, but the Jewish faith has always held something...magical and wonderful in my eyes. I loved watching specials about the Jews, the holocaust, the old testament stories, movies...anything Jewish or Hebrew I could lay my hands on. When I got older, my mother's faith in the Roman fathers kept growing and mine dimished. When I met my current hubby, I found out he was Jewish, but I didn't tell my mother. Somehow, she knew. Our son's name is in the Hebrew tounge Yitzak Ya'acov.

WOW! How does that happen? Were you ever strongly convinced of Jesus as the Messiah? I've heard of people going from Judaism to Christianity, but rarely the other way around! Do you ever wonder if you were wrong? Have you had trouble with the rest of your family? Thanks for the GREAT responce!

I haven't changed my belief in God the Father, however I did change many of my beliefs that had been taught to me since childhood. I realized one day while sitting in church that I had never questioned the teachings I had received. The knowledge I had came from others who promoted the same beliefs I had at that time. I started researching on my own and discovered for myself some mistakes being taught by the church I was attending. I would encourage all people to question their beliefs. Do they believe a certain way because of being taught this from childhood, or because they researched it and find it to be truth? Man is still just a man and makes mistakes. It is hard now because of my family. They stand firm on certain issues and I do not try to change their mind, though they do try to change mine. However, it did not take me long to realign my actions.

I am not sure which change you are talking about when you ask. If you are asking what changes in my life as far as the church, I quit attending church every time the doors were open. I was taught to believe that if you are not in church EVERY time the doors are open, then you are a lost. I also don't find anything wrong with the use of instruments in church or singing. I don't believe that I have to wear my hair a certain way or dress a certain way in order to get to heaven. : ) As far as beliefs, I don't believe in the rapture that is talked about. I don't believe in once saved, always saved and other things along that line. I believe in tithing 10% and there is no excuse good enough not to, etc. I do believe in Jesus as Savior and the only way to Heaven. However, I don't believe we are meant to force our beliefs on others as we are all given the right of choice. If someone asks me, like you did, then I will answer. I respect the rights of others to believe what they will, though sometimes I am saddened by it, but I accept this as their choice. Was this what you meant or am I way off base? : )

What was the change you made, if you don't mind sharing? I think you're right, people really should look critically at the faith handed to them, it would keep things in line, possibly. Thanks!

Yes, it was more a seeing what was real in the faith I belonged to, this caused me to question the contradictions, and the hypocrysy within the Catholic church, that lead me to talking to others, and learning, and eventually I reached a place where I am now.

If you don't mind, where are you now? You left Catholicism? In favor of what?
