I just finished reading What God Wants and was completely disgusted with it. I was wondering if anyone else has read this book and if so, what were your thought on it?
My uncle actually gave this book to my mother for Christmas and I was looking for something to read, so having been raised a Christian, I saw the title and thought this would be an interesting read. Little did I know that this book would make me so angry that I actually threw it across the room at one point. My uncle kept asking if we have gotten to chapter 13 yet because when we did, it would change our lives. All it did was shock us. The rest of the book broke our hearts as Christians. If you have read the book, I would really like to get your thoughts on it. If you have not read the book, you should, so you will know what false teachings are out there to mislead people. If you actually liked the doctrine of the book and/or follow it, I would like to know your reasonings.

I have not read the book, but I am really interested about what would cause it to shock or break your hearts. If you could send me a message about it or post it here so that I could understand a little more about what you are talking about. Thanks!

The first part of the book "explains" to the reader why we believe in God and why we think God wants anything from us. How we have been "led" to believe that you must have God in your life and that we have bee "brainwashed" into believing that God needs us to love, honor and obey Him. That we have been told all our lives that God WANTS us to live a certain type of life, obey His commands, etc.
Then it tells you that you are leading up to learning the truth about WHAT GOD WANTS. Anytime the book says WHAT GOD WANTS it is all caps as it is that important. Chapter 12 ends with the statement that as soon as you turn the page you will learn the secret that has been kept from you for centuries: WHAT GOD WANTS. Chapter 13 is completely blank. It is 4 pages of nothing. Then Chapter 14 starts by saying that WHAT GOD WANTS is nothing. He wants and needs absolutely nothing from you. He doesn't need you. And God doesn't want anything from you.
The rest of the book goes on to tell you how believing that God wants anything from you or even needs you stunts your life. It keeps you from having the kind of life you want. There is a whole lot more but I won't go into too much more detail. I cried by the time I finished the book. To think that my uncle who was raised a Christian would read this book and then take it to heart and turn his back on God and teach these things to his children....well, it broke my heart.
I think that every person of faith should read this book so that they will know and understand why some people have chosen to turn away from God. Also, so they will know what types of fasle teachings are being used to justify all kinds of sinful behavior in the world today.
