I have an extremely severe case of asthma. I have battled it since I was born and have been on many different medications. Luckily I have been stable for the last year. When I was 9 my parents were told by a children's hospital pulmonologist that I needed to have an emergency admittance because if I had another asthma attack I would die. Through running tests they had discovered that I had absolutely no air reserve in my lungs which is what keeps you alive when you have an asthma attack. I am now 26 and last year I had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital and I stopped breathing on the way there. I realize that not all asthmatics are as severe as I am, but people who have this disease need to take it seriously which I have not always done. Stupid I know. I find out ways where I could speak to people and share my story. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could get started doing this? I checked the Asthma and Allergy Foundation website and couldn't find anything.
