potty training

Usually when they are a bit closer to two is a good time to start but each child is different and having the potty out for your child is a good start . Yoou can talk to him/her and just try to explain what the potty is for . My oldest was trained before she was two but all my other children so far were around two or three before they were trained and right now my three year old is trained for the day but still has to wear a pull up to bed . You can try putting your child on the potty with a book or something to play with and something to drink as this will make them have to go to the bathroom . When they actually do something , make a big deal out of what a big girl or big boy they are and give them something that would be special to them , weather it is a treat or a special toy or something just so they realize that they did a good job . This is how I always tried it and will have to go through this soon as I am going to have to start with my youngest again soon . Just always remember that each child will only do it when they are ready . Hope this gave you some idea's as everyone comes up with their own way that works best for them . Best of Luck !!

Hi There We also have a 18 months old, he is not potty trained yet. I have read on many occasions that parents should not start before 24 months, because before that the little ones are not really able to control their sphincters (what let the stuff come out) I also read stpried and heard stories about babies that were really earlier, but I d rather wait that my child is 2, in order to avoid accidents and thus any eventual complications to the potty training. I will keep an eye on your post because I am slo very interested in knowing any good tips for later! Good discussion !
