I think that I like charcoal better. I like the taste of it better. I put wood chips in there to keep the flames burning. I also like playing with the coals (stoking the flames)... just gives me something to do - keeps me busy.

Have to agree with missinghim, charcoal definitely is the best, would like to know why all the large fancy looking ones are only gas and not charcoal, the charcoal ones here are quite small and just don't stand up to long in the wind.

Charcoal because I think its smoke has its special effects on the taste of the barbeque, and also, its kind of unique because of being slow and has a traditional touch to it

I prefer charcoal. I think it's just different from using gas. The food smells better. Could be due to the extra ingredients from the ash LoL.

LoL That's right. So remember to use charcoal for your barbecue.. I knew from my friend that the charcoal used for barbecue comes in several grade. The highest grade is the best one with minimum smoke and thus less likely to be choked by the smoke released. Many 5 stars hotel are using the highest grade charcoal for indoor barbecue due to this feature.

I love the smell of charcoal at a BBQ. I live in a very big city, New York City so I never get to go to a BBQ. The only time I go to one is once a year when and if I can visit my brother who lives in Florida. Now I want a BBQ!!! LOL

Hi howard, of course I prefer charcoal as the soft fire could really make the stuffs above it more tasty and truly give off the real attractive smell of the seasoned meat or others. Besides it is more hygienic as charcoal is a natural carbon. I believe natural fuel is much healthier and user friendly.

Charcoal is the only way to go after wood. Gas just isn't natural for grilling outside.

I prefer charcoal. The food tastes better and I am afraid of gas. It just seems dangerous. I love the smell of a charcoal grill, it is easy to start the fire and I like to see the charcoal start turning orange.

Oh, I can't believe that this discussion was post two years ago:) I still like to respond to it. I like charcoal for barbecue because it seems safer than gas. Gas will have a harmful smell, I guess. I love China

Hi, howards96h. I prefer the gas grill. I don't like to taste the charcoal after taste that is left on my food, especially with any chicken that I may eat. I don't like the woody taste, it tastes too burnt to me. If someone can cook it without it tasting like burnt charcoal, then I will be glad to eat it then.

I can tell you for sure that the best barbecue that I tasted were done in charcoal! The best meat from Argentina and the best barbecue done in Brasil are done in charcoal. Electric is good in the cleaning part! LOL

Well in our case when we speak of barbecue it is always related with charcoal. I have never cooked any barbecue using other means except charcoal. I think when you are using charcoal, you bring out the best in barbecue as compared to cooking it with gas or other means. Perhaps the heat in charcoal is different and is somewhat ideal for barbecue cooking.

I will preferred to use charcoal if not wood. I just like the smoke taste which given by the charcoal or woods. With gas grill, we won't get that aroma which make barbecue such a delicious meal. Using a gas for me is just like using an oven. It look like a barbecue but the taste is not. So I will go with charcoal and wood for barbecue.
