Who treats their dog as a Pet, or is your dog a part of the family ? I've got a Doberman and an Australian Kelpie pup and they are very much part of the family, spoilt even.

My dog was a family member. Actually all of my dogs/cats are members of our family. When you have a pet and you bond and have and love each other, you can't help but make them a part of the family. Just let something bad happen to one of them, then you will know what I mean. I miss my girl as much today as I did almost a year ago when she passed away from an accident. She had been my constant shadow for about 4 or 5 years.

I know what you mean, I still miss one of my bubs from a year ago, He was old and at the vets each week. We couldnt afford it but you find the money (dont you) when you really need it.

Thank you for best response. Yes, somehow we do find the money to take care of our pets. Most vets will work with you too, they want to see the animal saved as much as we do. At least my vet is that way.

I suposse mine are pets but they are apart of my family. I have two dogs and I love them both dearly. :] My puppy Fritz is horribly spoilt. He is the sweetest thing ever.

Family Member!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with spoiling your pets and treating them the same way you would a child..they deserve it. In my view animals are just as important and as special as a humanbeing...they just speak a different language than we do! We have a dog and two cats so I know what spoiling is all about..but they deserve every minute of it!

Of course they do, they each have their own little personalities and emotions, and their lives are in your hands, they depend on you for everything.

Definitely part of the family with in reason. They are loved, give love, there is a great deal of affection, and when we went away and the dogs stayed with a friend we knew they were well cared for, but when we got back and they were back home they were like kids, they had fun checking out the new yard / space but were glad to be home. They have their own toys, and are not forgotten at christmas. I think they are like family but it is different. I am more accepting of the loss of a dog, than say my mom, so yes family but different. Not strictly any catagory and definitely not just a dog left in the yard all the time to guard, I don't get that I could never have that kind of dog it doesn't match who I am and I think unless trained that way from puppy most dogs want more than that as well.

Yes, I agree. But I have seen it where people say feed the dog, and the dog gets feed, no pat , no nothing, no emotion, I think these people are heartless.

We have a mutt and she is our dogter. She sleeps in the bed with us and goes everywhere with us. She even gets to lick our plates clean sometimes.

I treat my pet as a pet, but they are part of the family. I don't know if that makes sense.

Sort of, if you consider it part of the family. I have seen situations where dogs are pets and that it, no emotion at all towards the dog and I think thats sad.
