I love to see canines utilized by police forces. You know they are being well cared for and dogs love to please.

Have no clue why I'm responding since the ppl that have already posted pretty much summed it up what kinds of 'jobs' that various dogs have.

they are also used as guide dogs for the blindn like the labradoe retrievers and golden retreivers.... ther are many which are trained for sick ppl who needs someone by their side every single sec.... like epilectic ppl who can have an attack any given time..... these guide dogs are trained to sense the attack much before it hits the patient..... there are some which are trained as life guards like the retrievers and newfoundlands...... some are used for hunting like the pointers, beagles and all the hounds to sniff out the meat and bring it to the hunter...... some dogs are trained for handicapped ppl who are bound to a wheel chair....to take them around and sometimes at home when the person needs a drink from the fridge or wants the fone they go and get the necessary things for them.... hope this info shines some light on what u wanted to know

Just because the dog has a "job" doesn't mean that they are well cared for. Another "job" a dog may have is a guide dog.

Guide dogs, "pets as therapy" for people with emotional problems or ailments also sometimes for the elderly, guard dogs, trained performers in the media, companions for lonely people, sheep dogs, cattle dogs, pig dogs, hunting dogs, retrievers, St. Bernards and other tracker/rescue dogs... About all they don't do is host talk shows. Don't know why; they always paws to consider, and if they bark up the wrong tree at least they look authentic...
