How many of you use bleach water to sanitize your dishes when you wash them? Do you know of any cons of doing this? I know not to use it on tephlon pans because it causes the non stick coating to come off (I learned this one the hard way) I do it, Its like a compulsion for me, I have to soak my dishes in hot bleach water for 5 mins before I wash them. So far it has not seemed to cause any problems for us, Ive been doing it for about 2 years. I was wondering if I am wierd or if other people do this too. Also if it causes the enamel to come off dishes or anything like that, any cons I should probably know about, lol.

gee I can't imagine this would be environmentally friendly. Isn't it so that there is too much desanatizing going on - so many products have disinfectants added to all sorts of cleaners and cloths etc that are actually promoting the growth of bugs that become immune to more and stronger chemicals. Why do you think you would need more than hot water and detergent? (real question, not being a smartie:)))

I had a food service class years ago and we had to wash in hot soapy water rinse in hot water then sanitize with bleach All restaurnts are supposed to use this method. The health dept is supposed to enforce this rule. The bleach works better if it is not mixed with the dish detergent. The dishes did not have to sit in the bleach water any length of time. The water stayed on them when rinsed and it stil made contact with them after they are taken out of the water. Does that make sense. I am getting so sleepy that my thoughts are not comeing out as clear as I hoped.

I think working in restaraunts was what made me start doing this lol, after being around it at work all the time, lol, I still wipe my table down with a bleach water rag, lol, then pledge it. & all my counter tops & such get wiped down with a bleach water rag, then sprayed with Clorox anywhere hard surface spray & wiped down with a clean wet rag. I think I have a touch of ocd when it comes to cleaning stuff with bleach, Thanks Food Service Industry! lol

i always wash my dishes with bleach but i only add a little to my water. i have never had any trouble with any of the teflon comeing off or enamel.this is a great way to keep the stains out of your dishes an grems.i dont think a person should over do it with bleach.it would take longer to get the smell out.unless you pour lemon jucie in with your dish water.

My grandpa SWEARS on bleach. :) He uses it all the time. i use it, too when I wash dishes by hand. If I have something that needs to be soaked, I will put bleach in the water. I haven't seen any bad from the bleach and my grandpa has never complained so I am not much help on the cons side. :)
