what do you call...

...those really nice long coats that goes below the knee? not the raincoat waterproof materials, but like those made of wool, shearling, etc.

what kind of overcoat do you think is suitable for a college student? i don't want one that looks too business-like, but i don't want one that looks like a longer version of what everyone else is wearing (nylon raincoat material type of jackets).

I think the proper name would be a "duster" It is a long coat made of material like wool..in the old west they were called Dusters,worn by men and women,,,They also make dusters in long knee lengrh sweaters..They are very cool looking,but some just call them a long coat,but it is really a "Duster"
