Add Music to Your Blog

As I was roaming on the blogosphere last night, I came to a blog with a cool feature. The blog started playing a nice jazz music clip as I loaded the page. The music was played by a tiny flash player provided by a company called sonific (http://sonific.com).
Sonific has a library of songs, though I think that the library is not varied enough, yet. First you need to sign up for a free account, then you can start using the service. This is how it works.
- Sonific is based on the concept of SongSpots (yet another buzz word). To keep things simple, you can think of a SongSpot as a single song.
- You can search for songs in the library. You can search for an artist, a genre, or some keywords.
- Once you get the search results, you can play the songs from your browser by clicking on the speaker button.
- If you like a given song, then you can add it to your blog, this way:
1- Activate the SongSpot, by clicking the dot button of this song.
2- You will be taken to a page where you can configure your songSpot. Here, you will specify the blogging software you are using (blogger, wordpress...), the look of the player as it will appear on your blog (dimensions, vertical/horizontal...), the sound volume, whether the song should start playing automatically or not and whether the song should play in an endless loop, or not.
3- Once done with the configuration, Sonific, will provide you with the HTML code that you should add to your blog.
Et voilĂ , the next time you visit your blog, you will be greeted with some nice music.

While some people don't mind music on a website -- or even like it -- others are incredibly annoyed by such things. And I'm one of those! Just like 'flashy' sites that hurt the eyes, I absolutely detest sites with music.
Sorry, I'm being my grumpy old self again! ;)

I agree, it could be annoying. I tried to keep the sound volume low. These sites could be even more annoying, if somebody visits them while at work or in a public place!
Well, I am just playing with all these blog gadgets like a little kid who gets a new toy, plays with it for a while then moves to the next one. Too many gadgets on a blog slows down the page loading time considerably.

I hate when people add music to their blogs and then add them to traffic exchange programs. This afternoon my PC crashed because I surfed onto a blog that started auto music while I was already listening to music on the computer. I think if someone wants it they should allow for people to switch it on and not force people to listen to music or watch videos. Just my opinion, but I know a lot of bloggers share these thoughts. Cheers!

Ok, you are making me feel guilty now for having added music to my blog. I'll keep it for a day or 2 then get rid of it.

Yeah, actually I did that last yesterday. I disabled the auto-start feature. Only visitors who are interested in hearing the song will play it now. Though, the player is tucked in the sidebar, so I really doubt that anybody will do so, except myself :)

Music on a blog or website is the best way to get me to hit the Back key. It's usually too loud, and about 99% of the time is something I'd hate to listen to even if it was at a comfortable level. Unless the blog is about music, why would I even want to hear it? It's just a distraction.

I was checking the profile of a Mylot member a few minutes when I heard some music that made me jump on my chair. On top of that I was wearing my headphones, and my mike' s volume was set to the maximum. So, I agree with you.
