Mayans: World as we know it ends in 2012

This date came up in a recent story I read a few years back from a person who put together raw numbers and came back with the same year -- 2012 -- that the Mayan calendar did pertaining to the end of the world as we know it. Mel Gibson seemed to have a predilection along those lines with his film "Apocalyto," which to this day gives me the creeps because he attempted to use the ancient language and succeeded in placing an additional layer of plausibility on the proceedings. Now it has been disclosed that a large asteroid's orbit will take it dangerously close to the earth in 2012 and it might even hit the earth. Global warming is becoming more than scary. China's exploding economy, successful beyond anyone's wildest imaginings, will sprint past this planet's energy capabilities and there will be shortages of all energy, very quickly. That will come to a head in 2012 when China grows past the earth's capacity to accommodate that growth. Let's all prepare for 2012, and make the most of the time we have left. We are already engaged in a catastrophic war for oil in the Middle East and if you think it will be limited to Iraq, you are living in a dream world. It's time to come together, not fly apart.

If this did happen in 2012... it would be too funny. (private joke). Would only happen if an asteroid hit us... No... The way it works is that now we need to be punish for an hundred years for our sins in the past hundred years. Then we'll die. And how do you propose that we come together? We are territorial like cats and simply cannot live together. We are also greedy and do not like sharing. We cannot stop China... and we don't have any right to stop China. Our biggest sin is to refuse to accept logic and reality. Half of the world talk about it... but does nothing. While the other half think that God will save them.

You appear to be quite skeptical, and even cynical, with many of your responses. There is nothing wrong with that but I would love to se some actual alternatives to what is going on right now. The positive side is that we can communicate globally on the Internet in much the same way as we did with each other around a campfire in centuries past. There has to be come value to that. And I'm all in favor of putting broadcast TV out of business in favor of the global Internet. This is far more interesting.

Skeptical would be an understatement. Try impossible. It is very easy for me to be cynical when I watch the whole world with their head buried in the sand like an ostrich... because they do not want to know about the reality. The fact is... and I don't expect you to take my word for it... It is too late... We did stuff up... and there is nothing we will want to do to fix it... because it would requires actions which are against everything we believe in. To save humanity now... it would require either a major natural disaster of catastrophic proportion... or a nuclear war. The fact of the matter is that we need to lose 4 billion people... and nobody is prepared to do that willingly.

I saw a documentary on the Mayan calendar that talked about this. The Mayans had an extremely advanced calendar, and managed to calculate it accurately and predict astronomical events up until 2012...so if they went that far, why would they stop there, unless they really did know something? On the other hand, I know someone who is a prophet (and skeptical as I am, I actually believe he's a prophet because of some of the things I've seen him predict), and he said that he had a dream that a catastrophic world event would happen in 2025. Now, how can that be if the world doesn't exist after 2012? Hm...

I just think the Mayans are probably right. Something big is going to happen in 2012.

I've read alot about 'the end of the world' and apparantly some other ancient civilzations talked about that particular year as well..I wish I could name them, but I haven't gotten any sleep for nearly twenty four hours and my head REALLY hurts lol. I don't know. It's possible we could all get wiped out by that year..entirely possible. How probable it is..I don't know. There's nothing we can relly do about it, if the world's ending in four years..well then it's too late to do anything about China's economy, global warming, the asteroid..and the thousands of other things which could happen by that date. Hell, we could nuke eachother by then..who knows? That's why I'm just going to live my life up to that point. As best as I can..and hope and pray for the best. As for the oil crap that's going on, if people spent more time working on ORGANIC fuel we wouldn't have this problem..hell, even though it's a bit late, that might even HELP the pollution problem. Heck, there's cars that run on veggie oil..people should just buy those. But does anyone want to do this? No. The band Green Day's tried their part, encouraging people to buy the new hybrid cars, which cut down on pollution greatly by running on both electricity and gas (electricity first before gas, the great thing is, for people like me we don't have much farther than ten miles to travel each DAY, so that would mean if we kept our car charged we would use ZERO gas..isn't that amazing?) But..it's unrealistic to expect everyone to change overnight about this. And four years is what I'd consider overnight where our earth is concerned. But don't listen to me anyone who's reading my response, ^_^' if you can pull off a mass changing of today's countries and societies..go at it, it's more than I or anyone I've known could ever do. And I'll throw a crazy party if you all succeed.. But yeah..I agree, we should at least TRY. Be realistic and aware of how grim things are but TRY.
