This is a question most of us get asked at some point of time in life.
I am in my twenties now but i can remember very well when quite a large number of my class mates in the 5th grade got engaged in a conversation related to this topic: Who is more closer to us? is it our mom or dad? . 17 out of the 22 in our class said that it was their mom. 4 of them said that both were equally close and only one said that he was more closer to his dad than his mom. That was me.
This is not to say that i had a bad relationship with my mom. My mom and I have been pretty close as well but we were not quite on the same wave length as my dad and I.
From the time i can remember, it was he i would turn to almost instantaneouly for anything.I knew i could always count on him. Sometimes, i would goto him with unreasonable requests ( you know how kids can be ), but the way he would decline and explain to me why it cannot be done, i would never get disappointed.
As i got older, my requirements changed. But just as always he would be there for me. In fact, we got even more closer if it was possible. Each and every time i needed to talk to a person i would go to him. Anything happy, i would share it with him first. There was no topic we could not talk out openly. There were times when the family went through financial crisis periods. He had to pay through his nose for our education and he had to make sacrifices just to fulfil our basic necessities.I grew to admire and appreciate him more and more. Over the course of all these years, my dad had become my best friend.
The influence and the impact my dad had on me cannot be compared to anything else.
My dad passed away last year. He had a heart attack and died on the spot. I was right on the brink of fatherhood myself when he bade farewell to this world.
I just hope that i can be as good a father to my kid as he was to me.
And so, I am curious as to know and to see how parents closeness has affected all of u and if so which one has been more influential.
