Tranfer Video to PC (JVC)

Hi! I have a JVC hard disk camcorder it comes with the USB to conecct it with my PC but they don't seem to show.. the videos are stored in the camera with a extension .MOD .. what does this mean? I transfer them to my PC but I can't see them cause no program can read this extension... What do I do?? Am I missing something?
