Higher Minimum Wage = Lazier people???

I was recently listening to talk radio when the subject of the new federal minimum wage came up. The radio host boasted "well, it's up to people to get and education and not have to work for minimum wage. If we up it (the wage) all it's going to do is perpetuate the amount of lazy, unmotivated people coming into the workforce..." I was pretty shocked. I know many decent, loving, hardworking people that go out and bust their rear-end for minimum wage...not because they are lazy or didnt want an education, but because their truly was no other choice. People with families to support, mouths to feed, bills to pay.... what do you think?

I think that they should raise minimum wage. Right now Federal minimun wage is $5.15. Most state minimum wage is higher than that. Those people who do the jobs that pay minimum wage are people just like the rest of us and $5.15 and hour is not enough to support a family. The less paying jobs are often times more demanding and even though they pay less they are usually every bit as important. I hope they raise minimum wage sometime soon.

I agree! And if not for these minimum wage workers, where would the world be? All these people who are toiling in minimum wage jobs are mostly people who are attending to everyone else's needs. I know a lot of people qualified for much higher paying jobs however it's just not available and therefore they are forced to take minimum wage employment. To say that raising minimum wage is going to make people lazier is crazy, people in these positions are usually working their butts off!

I would say that this person is in the wrong job! He would seem to be 'running off at the mouth', not having the least idea what he's talking about. He certainly hasn't done much research. Life's circumstances prevent many people furthering their education; and, if these minimum-paying jobs were not done, everything would grind to a thudding stop!
