have you ever put your ATM card into the machine and never got it back? What do you do if this happens to you?

I know myself well enough to know that my first reaction would be to curse violently. Then I would use my cell phone to call my husband to bring me a cot, blankets, pillow and his weapon. Then I would attempt calling the bank (hope they have an afterhours number) and see what they recommend. I would then camp right there by that ATM until a bank employee showed up! My husband would be assigned guard duty. He would park right beside me and sit guard with his weapon! No way would I leave that card there for someone to find should the machine start working again!

ATM cards, debit card - ATM cards are nowadays common with everyone. Most people has atleast one ATM card or credit card or debit card. And most cities have a dozen of ATMs in eary corner of the city.
No that has not happened to me. But now, you have made me afraid. I would be tensed when I next time reach out for an ATM. This post would be really in the back of mind. This ever happened to you? I think you lost your card or menu.

Yes as a matter of fact it did happen to me. I went to take out money and the machine just ate my card just like that. If I remember correctly there was a number that showed up to report that my card was stuck, or it said to call my local bank. In any event I called and they sent me a new one right away.

yes, this has already happened to me but i got it back the next day. i just had to inform my bank that the atm machine captured my card. they gave me instructions that i am to go to the bank/branch were the atm is located (if the atm is located at a bank/branch) or go to the bank where i opened my account to retrieve the atm card. i'm sure your bank has similar procedures when and if this does happen to you.

Yes it has happened to me. If it happens in your depository bank you can get it right away but if it happpens in another atm you have to wait till the next day or when they will open the machine to load money, whichever comes first.

This has never happened to me.I think I would be very upset ESPECIALLY if the bank is closed.I would immediately call the 1-800#,but I think this happened to someone before though.
@disvachic (10117)

Thats why I would stand right there and use my cell phone call that 800# and cancel my card before someone goes there to use the ATM.

Good point, to stand there and call and cancel the card right away. Good advice for other people. Thanks for this information.

Yes, this is an awful thing to go through. I would be very upset having to leave the bank knowing that my card is still in there and could pop out after I leave. Thanks for responding.

Simply contact your bank. If there is a problem with the account sometimes they will keep the card or once in a while the card machine will malfunction. It's easily remedied as when they open the machine they can get it (probably already have) and you can usually get it the day you call.

For a forgetful person like me, it's a sure thing to happen :) It happened to me several times, mostly when I deposit cash using the ATM. At first I didn't know that we could retrieve the card through the enquiry counter and file a lost report. End up they charge me RM12. Later on, I found that we could claim it back without any charge :)

It has happened to me before. I went in and asked the lady at the bank if I could have my card back and she told me that the guy wasn't due back til tomorrow and he would just chop the card up. I had to go order a new card from my bank and they closed my other card immediately. When it happens at my bank, they just open the machine and give me my card back.

it happened to me once when i was in a mall. i called the bank where it was get stucked and gave them all the necessary details needed and i waited for a few days for it to be proccessed by my bank and the other bank. it was a lot of hassles considering your money is stuck and the only way for you to do is withdraw over the counter.

Yes, it happened to me once. From what I know, if it's banking hours and the machine is adjacent, an adjunct to, or right inside the bank, then you can just go to the information desk or to the teller so that they could retrieve your card immediately. Otherwise, you have an emergency hotline usually posted in the vicinity of the machine which you can call (some would even come with phones right there so that you could make the call); or you can just report that the machine ate up you ATM card to the bank during banking hours (ex. of the following day).

I would be afraid to leave if it was after banking hours, my luck the card would pop out as soon as I left. Then someone would get it. I wish all banks would have it so you can dip your card and take it right back out. Thanks.

Yes this happened to me once . Luckily I was near my bank , so I went to my bank and asked about it . There was no reason that they could see , and they issued me a new card right on the spot . Has this ever happened to you ? What did you do ?

Well the only reason I left was because the Bank was right around the corner and it only took a few minutes to get there .

No it has not but I would not feel comfortable leaving the card in there and going back to the bank the next day. It could come out after I leave and someone else might get it. I am surprised though how many people this has happened to.

Loosing your card is such a scary thing. I wish all the banks would modify their machines so we can just "dip or swipe" the card rather than the machine pulling the card in. Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately this has happened to me in the past. Once it was because I had somehow forgotten my Code, and when I entered it wrong like 3 or 4 times it decided to keep my Card, and then another time I had accidently put a Blank envelope in as a Deposit instead of the Correct envelope with my check in it, and then almost ended up Freezing my account to where I could not have a Bank Card and would have had to only get $$ from my Bank. I was Glad that the Bank was finally understanding to release me a New Card, but it was a nightmare doing so.

Wow, freezing your account is an awful thing to go through. You must have been so happy when they finally released the freeze. With so many pin numbers and different codes to remember with phones and computers it is very easy to forget. Thanks.

It has never happened with me.This type of incident happened with my some friends. Now the ATM machine is changed, istead of inserting card in to to machine,we can swipe the card.It is more convinient than older machine.

Yes these are the ones I prefer where you swipe or dip your card in and it never leaves your hand. The machines that takes your card in should be changed, I guess the banks don't want to spend the money to change them over. Thanks for your response.

I did experience this before when I got an ATM card at the first time long ago. I went to one of the counters immediately and told the person who was in charge of ATM cards what had happened. She asked me to collect my card the next day as they used to collect the ‘gulped’ cards in the machine once before office closed during working day.

Thank goodness this never happen to me because if it did I'd probably freak out--but an awful lot of the ATMs now aren't the kind that you have to insert the card in but just swipe--I guess they re-invented the ATMs so something like that doesn't happen anymore

I prefer the "swipe" or "dip" over the machine taking the card in, what an awful thing to happen. Thanks for responding pyewacket.
