when will i know that a particular photo or image is copyrighted. I've received hundreds of image from my friends through their emails, does it mean i can't use them, how do i know. Can i use Microsoft's clip art, that is on my computer, can i google, look for a image d/l and paste it here, not photo all other images, radio hands for example my avatar i received it from a friend, so i just used it, I'm sure i am not the only one not so clear about this.

Just because there is no copyright notice on the picutre doesn't mean you are free to use it. I have picutres up online including my avatar picture here, and there is no copyright notice on it, but it is still mine, I took it, and if I came across anyone using it I would ask them to stop and if they didn't then I would sue them for copyright infirginement. You should always assume that the photo is copyrighted. Then if it is one that you really want to use, you should backtrace the steps it took to get to you. If a friend sent it to you find out where they got it. Or you could do a search for that picture. If you cannot find anything that says it is in the public domain then you shouldn't use it. You should never just use something because there is no copyright notice on it. You culd end up getting sued. Always play it safe. there are so many webistes that have pictures you can use without violating copyrights, so use those. Just do a search for free pictures and youwill come up with a lot of websites where you can get pictures.

thx i hear what u say,how about clip art and other images, sori to pick on you, but you sound well informed, and i just want to have fun here and not step on someones toes or to get sued. this whole copyrighted thing is quite vague, especially seeing it from a global point, where different country laws are involved

I feel the same and are just as in the fog about this issue as you but then we don't get responses I wonder if we will get something from MyLot. I will hold on to this copy as proof that I asked:)

Well most of the times photo's will have the name of the company or the person on it like on the bottom left or bottom right thats when its copyrighted but if theres no sign of any name on it than that means you can use it.
