How much time do you allow your children to spend watching television on a daily basis? Do you think that if it is an education program or educational cartoons that it is ok for them to spend more time watching it? I don't have a set limit for the amount of television I allow my son to watch, but I do get him involved in other activities as well/ I do think that if it is an educational show that is ok to spend more time watching it but I also try to make it more interactive by talking to my son about what is happening or getting him to learn new words that they may be saying on TV. What do you think?

I don't agree with children and television. There are much better things to do. I especially get my dander up when parents use tv as a babysitter. Spend the time reading with your child instead of discussing what is on tv. I raised 5 boys and had a very close eye on how much tv they watched.

I am the same as you. My kids watch a lot of TV, I guess. But, it is educational shows and they really learn a lot. My son will come up to me and tell me things that I never thought a 5 year old would know. When I ask how he knows it, he tells me he learned on DORA or LITTLE EINSTEINS. LOL When I am not cleaning house or something, I will sit and watch with them and comment on what is happening and all. But, the TV goes off at a certain time each day. I tell them it's time to go play in their rooms or whatever. I don't see the problem in TV as long as it's something worth watching. I think that TV shows these days teach our kids a lot.

We have always treated the television as a piece of furniture. Can be often on however, not necessarily just sat in front of. Have used Barnery, Teltubbies, Wishbone, Arthur for some type of education and plain fun. Now we do more movies that televsion. Again we don't make the telivision a big part of our life. Talking during the programming makes me think your son is beginning to learn to ignore you. Just my thought.
