What is your college course and why did you choose that particular course?

Is it really what YOU want? Or is it what your parents want for you? Did you choose that particular course because that was what you wanted? Or because it had a high income generating potential?

My course is pharmacy. It's not something that I wanted. But it's because I dont have a decision of my own during that time. One more is I get to study inmanila, a place 2 hours from ours and live on my own.

My late father urged me to take Customs Administration when I was not able to made it on the quota of UP for political Science course( I really want to become a lawyer and depend the helpless filipino) sounds like politician lol! Since Customs made easy money and one of our relative is working inside the bureau and as a loving daughter I followed without hesitation and really tries to exceel in that field and made my dad proud of me. After 4 years of hardwork in college,I did make them proud. I'm a woman with principle and that bureau is not the one for me I do prefer to work with a head up and a empty pocket rather than to use my position to get me rich in the expense of others. I really hate the system not the job and those people who manipulate the bureau. For now I'm on the process of pursuing my dream.

I first wanted to become an architect. But since my parents put up a different business, I have to take HRM. It was fine with me since I saw how hard it is to take up architecture since my brother was taking architecture then. I was afraid to get those pimples after so many sleepless nights of drawing. I do not know how to cook, it's a management course and I'm fine with it. I even finished with flying colors.

I took up Secondary Education, I thought it was what I really liked to be way back elementary and high school days, I knew I wanted to be a teacher and it's also the course my parents wanted, but when I was already in college, I realized that this is not really what I wanted but then I finished it and taught for like 5 years, after that I left the academic world and moved to corporate.

Hmmm, I guess sometimes things don't turn out the way we imagined they would when we were younger. At least you tried and then found out that this was not what you wanted.

I took up BS Nursing. At that time, I was so young and very dependent on my parents when it comes to decision making, so I took up nursing which is what they wanted and I know it was my mom who really wanted to be a nurse but she wasn't able to go through college because of financial reasons. They choosed nursing because I have an uncle who was a nurse in California and was earning high. Now, nurses are one of the highest paid profession esp.in the US. Actually, I have an existing application in Boston and hopefully it will be approved this year.

I hope you will find happiness in your very challenging chosen career, even if it was something your parents want for you.

I'm studying psychology. It's something that interests me on a personal level & if I want to pursue a career in it, I'd like to be a therapist. I like helping others & it has a great earning potential if you get a master's degree or higher. Right now I've got a full-time job & am not sure if I really want to go into psychology as a profession, but I love college so why not? Also ~ in some professions, you just need a degree & it doesn't matter (too much) what it's in.

Why not, indeed? At least you enjoyed college, whether or not you pursue the course as a profession!

I finished my BS in Occupational Therapy. I chose it because at that time it was fairly new and I wanted some thing related to health care. I was also thinking of taking up Medicine at that time so I figured it would be a good pre-med course.

I'm a B.S. Architecture graduate and still underboard. It's my personal choice actually because I thought when you are already an Architect, you'll get good compensation, get better jobs and all. But based on my experience, it's the opposite. I should've taken up Culinary Arts instead. By this time maybe I'm already running my own food business, a coffee shop or resto to be exact.

Sometimes, we do feel let down by our expectations of the course we're taking. Good thing for me, I love medicine, because it's very hard to build a practice and earn from it. People think that if you're a doctor, you're rich, even if that's not always the case.

I assume when you say "course" you are talking about my major, which is Sociology/Anthropology. I really enjoy my major and obviously I chose it myself (no parent would push their child into a Sociology major!) I took a few introductory courses in Sociology during freshmen year when my major was Political Science and I fell in love with it. So I switched majors and I find all of my Sociology/Anthropology courses to be very interesting and thought provoking and all of my professors are very interesting and cool. That said, there is very little money to be made in the field of Sociology or Anthropology, so I will most likely have to settle with limited earning potential OR getting a graduate degree.

At least you're happy with your chosen major (yes, that was what I was referring to). You'll be able to find more sources of income in the future, I'm sure.
