This is a canadian thing i think, It's french fries, with cheese grated on top, and then smothered in gravy. I LOVE this.

It may sound terrible, but don't discount it until you have tried it. It is quite good.

Oooh baby! I have a favorite bar called Moose Wisnooski's that makes the bomb of poutine! Love it! I've eaten it here in the states for years growing up! Evidently my folks were in Canada enough to learn the technique! LOL

We always cover our french fries with gravy. It tastes real good, but I have never had grated cheese on them. It sounds like it might be good. In my house we are big cheese fans so I am sure there will be no objections to trying this. Thanks.

Actually yeah this is canadian, but you wont find any REAL poutine outside the province of Quebec, where the poutine originated. And yes it is absolutely delicious even if it doent look very good at the first look at it. :) Cheers!

Not entirely true, if you look hard enough here in Ontario you can get real poutine, the grated cheese variety is more common, but you can find it if you look.

I love poutine, but I don have to correct you on what poutine is. While some places do make it with just regular grated cheese, that is not proper poutine. Proper poutine is french fries with cheese curds covered in gravy. Not that that is a huge difference but with cheese curds you end up with large lumps of mostly melted cheese in there, it makes for a tasty thing, whereas with the grated cheese you end up with a cheese and gravy sauce, still good, but not quite as good.

Oh, I do love the real poutine. I've had KFC variety and it's disgusting! Harvey's isn't too bad, that is, if they still use curds (I haven't eaten there for awhile). But, I must say, nothing really comes close to the genuine stuff - very yummy and quite filling!
