Are you a 'Sheep' or do you prefer to follow your own path?

Sheep - A picture of a sheep a term given to people who follow the crowd

I'm amazed these days at the amount of people who believe everything they have read and everything they are told without question! When I were younger and in my old 'goth' the term 'sheep' was given to all the people who followed fashion because they didn't have any inspiration of their own! Now I tend to give this name to people who do not question anything and believe all they are told! Are you a 'sheep' why do you not question or why do you choose to follow 'the crowd' if you're not then tell me why!

I guess I am not really a sheep (or as I call the mindless majority-- "Sheeple"), because most of the time I don't really care which direction "the flow" is going. The people I find more interesting than the "blind followers" are the ones who seem to be on a quest to categorically REJECT every trend and think of themselves as "independent rebels." Yet, if you take great pains to not ever do ANYthing that's "popular" you're no more thinking for yourself than those who blindly follow. True independence means following your heart, regardless of whether EVERYbody is doing something, or NObody is doing it.

OMG sheep drive me NUTS!! I call them "mindless sheep" LOL my son calls them "mindless robots" either term works though.....I very much walk to the beat of my own drum and i encourage my kids to as well simply because IMO being a follower of the masses not only denies you your true self but also lets face it "the masses are a$$es" (L7 tune LOL)....Why would i want to keep up appearances, keep up with the Joneses etc and feel disconnected rather than being me and feeling totally comfortable in my own skin, taking pride in myself and standing tall and strong in who I am? It makes no sense to me at all....I have a mind of my own and I like to use it ya know....and I tell my kids the same thing..."you have a brain, turn it on!" I think the BIGGEST issue I have with "mindless sheep" though is the damage they cause to society....If more ppl learned to stand on their own rather than being followers and goin along with things just cause "society says so" there wouldnt be nearly as much b.s goin on in the world as there is...

I like calling them "silly puppies" myself, it amounts to the same thing. I suppose I call 'em that 'cause stupidity of others can sometimes be amusing and cute..though more often than not it ain't.. Anyway, you explained yourself better than I did lol ^_^ *rates plus* But I agree, things would probably be better if people followed their ownhearts instead of marching to only one drummer, and that's not themselves. Goddess knows, if people quit being puppies, or robots, or lemmings, or SHEEP (lol) the rest of us'd probably have less to tear our hair out about.

I prefer to follow my own path. I have accomplished more and seen more positive results in doing this than listening to everyone else and following their lead. I would rather take my own risks and see where it gets me.

we really have to follow our own path. it's our life and we should have the control to drive it to where we want it to go. just be responsible enough to do so and be willing to face all the consequences for our decisions.

Your question is very meaningful. The term sheep might be 'old goth' as you put it, but is still very accurate. We live in a country where individuals have every possible oppurtunity to achieve high levels of education, but are lazy and ignorant. Therefore, the idiotic masses are easily shuffled in the same direction as the biased, greedy, and overtly liberal press. Hollywood and the fashion industry have used marketing techniques aimed at producing an entire generation of cookie-cutter people-specimens for economic consumption, not individuals capable of original thought. While I complain, I don't always operate with a spine of steel myself, but it is satisfying to be on the outside looking in for once.

I have always believed in verifying the facts presented to me before accepting them. I read about the renaissance and the practice of questioning the social dogmas, early in my childhood and it made a great impact on me. I decided then itself that I too would demand explanations wherever I felt they were required. I make an attempt to find out the origins of our religious customs too, and I have found out that most of them have deeply scientific roots and that knowledge would never have been mine if I wasn't curious in the first place. Curiosity might have killed the cat, but it also increases knowledge.

i am the kind of person who question almost everything. i do respect my parents but they respect, too my own way of thinking. there's nothing wrong with questioning about anything for as long as respect is still there. it's always better not to hurt people around. but if it is really needed so we can follow our happiness, then, it should be done as well.

No, I'm not a sheep, but I'm not the shepherd either. I sort of stand alone not wanting to follow or to lead. I choose to walk my own path and if someone chooses to walk next to me, that is fine; but I want no one before or after me ~Donnna

No I am not a sheep I do understand where you are coming from as there are too many people that follow like sheep and believe everything that they are told. I have a mind of my own and will try to figure things out for myself why it is like they are saying it is like that. I am not gullible to believe everything that I am told, I work things out for myself or test them accordingly.

ohk.... well If I go according to your nomenclature.... I do have something to ask..... who in these families is the species that ask the maximum questions ....lolzzz. My teachers and elders run away at my sight.... reason is that i am so much loved by everyone that i cannot be sent away and that the questions I am gonna put about the minutest things can be a definite source of a good heart ache..... and if not that then definitley a good headache for them!!! So I am definitley not a sheep but ya definitely a great "ANT SHEEP".... this is something you could definitely call me!!!

I try to stay away from following the herd. I don't like it. I don't like all of those fake people that are the same. I don't like how they fight to keep up with their facade because they so desperately want to be something they're not. I don't see how people can live their lives, their fake lives and be 'happy'. I wear what I want, I live my life how I want, some of it may be like the popular opinion, but a lot of it is not. I like having my own ideas and my own way of doing things.

It is a sad thing that today, people no longer have to think for themselves. There is so much spin today, that the spin doctors in government, politics and everyday life are now telling the febble minded how to live their lives. Ashamedly, they seem to be swallowing it all hook line and sinker. Methink, peole are generally gullible and tend to follow like the sheep these days without thinking, Hence, to the extend of believing without even seeing. Ask for me, I am naturally inqusitive and hard to convince; thus it is a task to confuse me. I can say that, i can still think for me and see for me and most importantly decide for me.

Im not a sheep. I believe that only I can make my own destiny, and therefore I shall not follow other people´s beliefs. I never follow stupid trends just because my friends are following. Even though, if they are following it, I wont ignore them just because of that, I respect other people´s beliefs I´m not a sheep !

I would not consider myself as a total sheep. I would say that I am a sheep in some area's of my life and I am a shepherd in other's.We all learn from each other's,all cannot lead, and in order to be a good leader you must first be a good follower. In answer to your question I do not believe everything I hear or read, some people place value on what they hear or read based on who wrote or said it, depending on their position in socity, and sometimes they don't even follow what they say or write themselves .I do not follow the crowd, I will listen to what others have to say but if it does not sound right or if I don't feel right about it I will act as if I never heard it. I do not always question a person reason for saying or doing something, especially when they call themself giving me advice and I know it is the wrong thing to say or do. I just don't do it.In today society people tend to follow those who are so called famous,or those who have been blessed with a little money, they try to set the standard for everyone else. Even in the church, some people think that they have to dress a certain way,do everything the preacher say do, when he/she say do it and how he/she say do it without question, believe it or not most of them don't want you to question anything they say.I understand that there need to be order and leaders but leadership does not mean controlship. I think I lean toward not being a sheep because I follow my heart no matter what other's say. If I think that I am right I will stand alone unless someone can convince me that I am wrong. As far as fashion I will create my own style, I have clothes that I have been wearing for over 20 years and I think I look just as nice or nicer than the next person when I get dressed.

I don't think I'm much of a sheep. When I hear or see new information, I actually want to see how it works or how someone came to that conclusion. There are some things I will believe at face value if they make sense to me, however more often than not I'm questioning it and then make up my mind afterwards.

Not being a sheep makes you an outsider and most people can't deal with that. I doubt that most of them could change even if they wanted to because they don't know how to think for themselves. Most educational systems not only fail to educate, they discourage independent thinking, so they just make a natural tendency worse than it has to be. I've been an outsider from the start and have always been comfortable with it, but I've noticed how reluctant people are to say anuthing that would put them outside the circle of the people they know.

Everyone will tell you he's a lion, not a sheep. The problem in my opinion is this. I think that everyone of us is a sheep when the risk il bigger than the thing you want to obtain. When instead the risk is minimum or however littler than the objective you have to be a lion. If someone tell you he is and will be always a lion he is a liar

I follow the middle path. There are times when i need to be a "sheep". Following somebody else's advice is not something taboo. You have to use your own judgment well. And then, there are times when you have to follow your own path. When you know, that whatever you are going to do is good for you.
