In Matthew 21:18 (also in Mark) Jesus curses a fig tree it seems because he was hungry and the fig tree had no fruit. I don't see what the lesson is here. Please advise as to what your opinion is. thanks.

This was not a thoughtless or angry act by Jesus. This was an acted out parable. If you read the whole passage, you will see it is about the Temple worship - or lack of real worship.
Jesus was showing His disdain at religion without substance. The tree looked good from a distance, but on closer inspection, it was fruitless. The Temple looked impressive from a distance, but on closer inspection its sacrifices and other activities were hollow and were not in worship of God.
Genuine faith will bring about a fruitful life.
