My mom has been going on walks for the past 3 months every single day even when it is cold and taking her dog. She has lost about 12 pounds just by walking. Now she is really getting into it and bought some walking shoes and is now watching what she is eating. She is 53 and says that she has not took crae of herself he whole life and now realizes that she needs too.

I walk almost every day, and I wish I could say I have lost weight from it, but I have not. I think I need go to more drastic measures and work out harder.

You may have not lost weight but you did not gain either. You probably maintained your weight though and that's good enough.

walking is one of the best ways to exercise really as far as I'm concerned..I mean if you think about it we HAVE TO walk everyday anyway (most of us) so why not park a little farther away, take the stairs instead of the elevator, have family walks after dinner or like your mum take the dog for a walk everyday...doing things like that in combo with watching what you eat can in fact do wonders....

My mom lost a lot of weight years ago by walking to work every day. Walking is great exercise that doesn't require special equipment and doesn't strain your joints. I try to walk everyday too, either on the treadmill or outside when weather permits.

Walking is very good for you. We have been taking my son in his stroller and going for walks in the evenings. It makes me feel so much better after I do it. And my son really enjoys being outside.

Walking is the best exercise across the board. Not only is it the best, but it's the easiest to do and doesn't cost hardly any money at all. All you need is a good pair of walking shoes and you can walk just anywhere you want to. I began walking years ago and still do as much as I can. It is not only good and getting you back into shape, but it's very good for your health. It helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Good for your mom!

Your mom sounds like a friend of mine that I met 2 years ago and used to walk with before she moved away. She was 67 at the time and I am 45, but she could outwalk me anytime. And, she walked in any kind of weather, no excuses! She would walk with her dogs and I would walk with mine. I still walk 2 miles/day because she got me started. When I walked with her we used to walk 4 miles, but the talking kept me going.

Good for her, walking is a wonderful low impact excercise to do. She will be one hot mamma before you know it.

Walking is indeed a great way to begin to get into shape. The garden this summer would be real good too. Watching what you eat and the portions especially can really help you get far. I am glad that she is more active in her well being now and can only hope that she continues for life from here on out!!
