Make a Wish?

My 16 year old daughter is eligible for a Make A Wish because she had a cancerous tumor removed in November. At first, she was not sure she wanted it because she no longer has the cancer. She just wants to put it behind her and really didn't want anyone knowing about it. But, there is a 50-75% chance that it will come back, so they told her that she is definitely eligible and that with everything she has been through, and could possibly go through in the future, she deserves it. Has anyone had a child that has had a Make A Wish granted? I've been all over their website and have read alot on it, but was just curious what the guidelines are for the wishes. She has no idea what she wants to ask for....

I work with a woman who has 2 grandsons with CF (cystic Fibrosis). The older boy was in the Make a Wish program-- He wanted a pool for his own back yard... The program bought him a great pool. (Unfortunately his mom let is get ruined by not taking care of it-- another story though) So I think you can ask to meet people, go places, for certain things-- I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter.. I hope that it never comes back! Cancer is terrible enough-- but even worse in Kids! She certainly deserves to have a wish granted!

Yes these cancer diseases they are dreadful especially when they go to our children, and your daughter would of been through a lot due to cancer, and of course she deserves to be treated with Make A Wish. In regards to Make A Wish has your daughter ever want to travel somewhere to another country or something like that as she could do this for her wish.

she should put alot of thought into it and make the one that is closest to her heart that she wants to do the most like meet a famos person or a special place to see. I read some where where a little boy just loved a certain person an wanted to meet him real bad well they took him to the game met the person and all they players took him under thier wing. Good luck to her to get her heart of heart wishes

first of all i must say it's very sweet of your daughter not to want her wish from Make A Wish. most kids that might have had the cancer removed would still want the wish. I think she should take it though since she does have a large chance of it returning. She does deserve it. good luck and i hope she gets the most important thing in her life whatever that may be for her wish.

I'm truly sorry that your daughter has been through something so terrible as having cancer. I too hope that it never comes back. This is the little that I think I know about "The Make A Wish Foundation." Our local country radio station every year does a telethon they broadcast over the radio and they go down to one of the malls and invite people that have been granted wishes to come and tell their stories. The are completely heart wrenching and I drive around listening balling my eyes out. :) Every year they set the goal here and then people will call up and challenge each other. Like a firefighter will call in and pledge $100 and challenge all other fighter fighters to do the same. Each wish costs approximetely $5,000, just depends on what the child wants. I think the age requirement is like 2 to 18, they must have a life-threatening medical condition to even get through the first part of the process. I believe a group of people will visit your daughter to see what her true wish is, what's the one thing that will make her the happiest. The wishes are usually where the child wants to go, or what they would like to be, sometimes wanting to meet a famous person things like that. It truly is a wonderful program and they help thousands of children here in the US every year, see their wish come true. Again I hope that your daughter remains cancer free. I hope this information is helpful, make a wish will make whatever she decides her wish to be absolutely unforgetable!!! :)

Thanks... she has no idea what to ask for... She is not the type of kid to ask for anything really, and there really isn't anything she needs or anyone she wants to meet. I told her she could go on a trip or a cruise, or she could ask for something. Of course, since she just got her driver's license last week, her first thought was a car! lol! I told her "NO WAY!" on that one! My 16 yo dd does NOT need a car! Thanks so much for the comments. We are hoping and praying that it never comes back as well!

I think that when the people come out to meet with her they will find the right fit for her. In listening to the stories over the years on the telethon many don't know what they want, but what they end up with seem to make them and their loved ones very happy, if for no other reason than all have a wonderful experience and memories to share as a family.

I don't know much about wishes but I agree she deserves it. I guess it would be hard to decide what to wish for but I'm sure she will make the right choice for her. Congradulations.
