my husband and I bought our first house this past year and I am worried that it would be too difficult to do our own taxes? we are in our early 20s so haven't had much experience with doing complicated taxes. Would we have a better chance of getting higher returns if we took it to a tax place? What are your experiences?

It really depends on how complicated it is. If you are refering to now having to itamize you deductions and all you will have is that interest and maybe you medical expense you still can do it yourself with the help of the great software they have now.
All tax software have and interview feature. It asks you questions and based upon your response leads you through the entire process. If you have a lot of investments or had a number of rental houses to worry about it would still work but you would be better off with someone to help the first time.
Tax prepares are expensive. It has been awhile sense I went to one but it is not cheep.
I just finished mine with software I downloaded off the Internet for both Federal and State. It cost $19.99.
If you would like to know more of that send me and e-mail at jbrooks0127@yahoo.com
Good luck with yours. Doesn't sound complicated at all but like all things scarry the first time.
