Organising your digital photos?

How do you do it? Do you have a special system or do you just shove them all in My Pictures? I put the date and year and a title that will remind me of the event.

I really need to do this actually. I only just got a digital camera a couple months ago and I'm starting to have a lot of pictures. I'm going to have to develop a system.

Oh I am very meticulous about my photos - some may say obsessive - LOL! Within "My Pictures", I have loads of different folders entitled by subject - you know the kind of thing - family photos, my cats, holiday snaps in different years, friends' wedding photos etc. I used to keep all my old fashioned pictures in albums in a similar way Some may say I have too much time on my hands - LOL - but I hate mess, and not being able to find stuff!

I make folders that correspond to certain events. Then I save my photos to the folders that will make it easy for me to find them. If I don't do this, they will get lost, because I have so many. I do a lot of fun things in Photoshop too, so I also have to have folders for those images. I am usually a very disorganized person away from my PC, but everything on my computer is very organized so that I can find things easily. LoL...it's weird.

I make a folder for each of my family and friends with their name, and give each photo a title (usually the event and date). Anything other than people, I have separate folders for "Animals", "Scenery", etc., then give each photo a title - that way I can go straight to what I want. If you have a lot of photos in My Pictures as I do, you have to have a system, otherwise your pics are all over the place and you'd have to look at them all to find the one you were after.

When I organize my digital photos, I put them in a folder that describes the event, place, or subject matter...like Pets, Dog Park, Birds... If you open the folder and move your mouse/cursor over the picture in the folder, it will tell you when the picture was taken.

Organizing??? There's a thought! Actually, I usually create either a folder with the date or occasion. If there are not too many photos in the folder, I'll name them all. If there are too many photos, I just leave the camera's numbering system in place. Then I just have to remember what I named the folders and photos!

My wife and i put them into folders by date of when they was taken. After we've built another we copy them on to a cd and save them, after labelling them. =) Other than that we don't really order them as we know when and where each photo was taken so it's simple for us to just do it like this.
