I was a care giver for both my parents until there deaths. My dad died of Alzheimer's disease first then 7 years alter my mother was diagnosed with the same illness in conjunction with diabetics and high blood pressure. I spent 15 years of my adult life and all my saving providing care for my parents. If you were diagnosed with a mind robbing illness would you expect your children to provide your care or would you expect to be placed in a nursing home? Could your afford nursing care or would your family have to be responsible? Insurance will only go so far then someone has to pick up the bill? Would you want to live if you knew the time would come when you would no longer remember how to care for yourself? No longer have any memory of your family or friends?

I will enjoy my life even more now if I knew I would suffer from that disease later on in life. I won't end my life just because I will lose my memories. I will write a diary and read it when I suffer alzheimer or have someone read it for me. If money is short then I would leave the decision to my family as to where they will put me. I wouldn't mind live with them without taking medication, as long as they don't mind to remind me to eat or showing where the toilet is.

No I would not want to live, I too nursed my Mother with alzheimers until I broke down and my mother had to put in a nursing home until she passd away, I continued to volunteer in that nursing home for 6years and after seeing the burden it seems to some people to even visit their family is too much, I am not close to what little family I have so I certainly wouldn't put anything onto my friends so I would not want to live when the quality of life is gone...

I understand completely. I have already made up my mind if I am ever diagnosed with any form of organic brain disorder I will take my own life. I do not want to live that way or burden those I love with my care.
