I wanna get my kicks on Route 66...

I was just watching a documentary on Route 66 by a couple German guys, and even though they spent most of the time showing how bad their 1974 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was, I got the impression it was a pretty awesome trip. This is one road trip I would love to do sometime. Has anyone here done it? Is it something you would recommend? Any towns along the way there are really special? I look forward to hearing what you all have to say! :)

When I was in America we drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to San Francisco. It was during this road trip that we found ourselves on route 66. It was not planned and I was pretty chuffed that we found our way on the nostalgic road. I would love to go back some day and take a better look.

Route 66 - A stretch of route 66
Just thought I'd add a pic of route 66 just because I can now that I am past 500 posts.

There is something about the road being so full of American history that seems cool. Even though your photo was quite small, it still makes me think of small town America... Thanks for the feedback, and congrat's on reaching 500!

Route 66? Well, I have done parts of it. I would have to say around California it is pretty neat - as you head into Los Angeles there are a lot of old restuarants that are nostalgic. My favorite drive was on Pacific Highway 1 - I have gone from Baja California to Oregon on Highway 1 - a pretty fantastic journey indeed. Another favorite is the Mississippi River road - Highway 61. I have been at the start of the Mississippi at Lake Itasca to as far as Memphis TN. I would like one day to finish it all the way to the Gulf of Mexico...someday.

Cool.. that does sound interesting. Its a long way to drive from Canada, but I think it would be a lot of fun, and going around the gulf of mexico does sound good too. Thanks for the advice :)
