Charges for using your bank

I have just heard on the news that banks in the UK are looking to charge a monthly fee to run your bank account. How can this be fair? They are making billions of pounds in profit. So how can they justify charging us more money. We have no choice - try living without a bank accout. How do you get your salary? How would you pay your bills?

From what I heard, the banks will do this to off set the bounced checks from their customers, as well as unsecured loans that are not paid back. They are only considering this. The banks in the US have had these charges for years. Is this fair? No, it is not. But, knowing them, they will do it anyway. Just one more intrusion into our lives.

I think it is very unfair when banks do this. I currently have a free checking account and savings account. MY husband and I do not make much money. If we were charged by the banks for having accounts. They would take the little bit we have left. I suggest finding a bank that doesn't charge. Eventually the other bank will loose customers and be gone.

It's not fair, it's big business, and I think you already answered your own question. they can get away with it because the people will still have the bank accounts, all while they are comlaining. There are already many banks here in the US that charge monthly fees. Some like my sister's bank charge you fro each time you actaully enter the bank and get helped by a teller, but they don't charge if you use the atm. My bank charges for certain bank accounts, and just about every bank charges for using the atm of another bank. All of these charges are just part of how they make their money, and they know they can get away with, so they keep doing it.
