I`ll start with the fact I tried Linux knoppix (live cd) yesterday but I had problems: 1) the mouse cursor show`d up for few seconds and then lost, the mouse worked, I could see I was selecting something but I couldn`t see the cursor. It was really annoying. 2) the maximum screen resolution was 1024x768. (but I have 19` monitor) 3) It show`d up my sound card but still, I could hear no sound I have AMD Athalon 64 3000+, 512mb RAM and GeForce 6600 graphic card. What linux I should choose, there are users who tell me to get Mandriva, to get Ubunto, etc. I need a version what I can test at start with LIVE CD (I don`t want to risk with my system) and that is compatible with 64bit system and of course is TOTALY free. Another question (yes, I`m not a pro), can I get FireFox in Linux, because I really love firefox, the best browser. Please tell me what linux I should get and arguments why.

I'm not too sure whether Slax still exists but there is a live cd format. But chances are that if you use a live cd the drivers for your sound card and video card wont be there, thus capping your screen resolution and making you have no sound. I think you should go for Slax if you can get a copy

I tried to burn a Knoppix ISO image on CD and boot from CD drive, but when I booted I saw a black screen for 2 minutes after which Windows booted up. what can be wrong here? Is using a ISO image for Linux correct or there is something more which I need to do ? Please advice

It depends very much on Koppix version you tried to use. I would recommend Knoppix 5.1. It must work on most of machines however LIVE CD is not a good thing for the newest machines because their kernels are limited and may not support all new hardware. So, your atempts to see how it works like may be rather dubious. Sorry, if it doesn't help.
