where in the Philippines, i see a lot of whitening products on the market nowadays. soaps, lotions, creams, even supplements have whitening variants. why do so many people want to be whiter. i don't think that white is neccessarily beautiful. i am "kayumanggi" but i want to have a more tanned color coz i think it suits me better.

i think it's sad because it has become a trend and more and more people are becoming dissatisfied with what they have instead of learning to love it.

I think this is not a problem with one country or a couple of them. Tmarket of whiening creams and products is booming in all countries which have people with brown skins. I donnt think there is anything wrong to want to look white like it is nothing wrong to want to look beautiful. But it might not be good when we think that only being white is beautiful. We should accept the fact that color does not alone make a person look beautiful. Color is just like a beautiful dress we put on. It does in no way alte our true beauty. Besides the sideeffects of all these cosmetics are too many and the lesser they are used the better.

i like the way you put it "color is like a beautiful dress we put on" and i agree. it's a matter what color you are. it depends on how you "wear" it

Here in the US, most "white" people want to be tan. I used to want to be darker, but I know that tanning is not that healthy. I think you should be proud of your skin color, no matter what color it is.

yup, totally agree with being proud of your skin color. but i'm guilty of tanning though. hehe. but i don't do it much only during summer. and i put ample protection and make sure i don't overdo it.

yes, but sometimes i think it's too much. i mean, some people turn to drastic measures just to be white like belaching methods and all that. it's just a little too much for me.

yeah, i kinda noticed that too. there are a lot of whitening products existing and people just buy them! what's alarming is the accumulation of fake or imitations of the products, sometimes, you will never know what's a genuine product and what's not. maybe the craze is simply a matter of desiring what you don't really have. i guess, it's innate for people to like the things that other people have. but it shouldn't always be the mentality right? :-) we could still learn to love what we have. it's something that we can call our own and something that we sould be proud of. i am also browned-skinned but i love it nonetheless. anyway, others are dying to have a tanned skinned right? so let's enjoy what we have :-)

yeah, nowadays a lot of products are coming out claiming that they can effectively whiten your skin even if they can actually do more damage than good. and sadly, people still go out and buy them because they desperately want to get whiter skin. i agree with you that we should learn to appreciate what we have and be content with it. because sometimes, the more we go for what we think is better, we become unaware that we are actually doing more harm to ourselves than good.
