What influences you to write?

I love writing, but I don't always have alot of time to come onto Mylot and type away. I also don't always have something good to say ever time I come onto Mylot ( :-P). Writers block as you may of heard of it, can frequently plague me at times. So I don't always come on to Mylot to write either, many times I come on to read some of what others are writing and I wait until I have an idea or something comes to me before I write. I don't like to just hop onto Mylot and create a stupid discussion, especially if it's not creative. (I've seen some discussions lately that are just mind boggling, like "What is green?", or "What is an atm?") I do not write like this, instead I wait until I have an idea and then it just seems to flow out of me. Strange how it all works out, one minute I am like "What am I going to write?" and the next minute I'm typing away like never before. But the important thing is to go out their and search and read some of what other people are writing, then I get ideas and I write them down to see if I can create something out of it. If I like what I see then I start visualizing the article or post and then I start writing away. What about you? What influences you to write? Do you have frequent writers block? (Don't we all? lol)

a lot of this , anything can inluence one to write , it can be a situation you are in , something that happened in the family or at workplace , that can be good or bad or something that gives you joy , some thing that you just found out , some weird or common or different happenings in day to day life , some good pictures or even a cup of coffee or something as strange as a someone gestured you with something , or someone you saw for the first time and liked or disliked , a new place you visited and a new way you took to school .

I know what you mean. I do have frequent writers block and the worst part of it is that I just started writing for Associated Content and they are paying me for my articles and now the writers block hits me. When I first started here at Mylot I was doing great. And just like you I can sit in front of the computer and think "What am I going to write" and then the words start flowing out. I love it when that happens. It makes me feel great. Then I started writing for AC a few weeks ago and I was loving it. I still love it but lately I have been just staring at the screen and trying to come up with ideas. I have been paid almost $40 from AC and I want to keep at it so the money will keep coming in but my mind is drawing a blank right now. Writers block is the worst thing a writer can go through. I just don't want to get stuck with nothing to write about and then no money coming in from my work. That extra money is great and makes me proud but until this writers block goes away there is nothing I can do. I just can't force myself to write because then nothing but junk comes out. I hope I get over it soon. :)

I know what you mean, sometimes I will get up and go walk around or something to just see some of what the day brings. Or go watch something or see something that could inspire me to write.

Yes, I cannot believe either what some people have chosen to Write on here, and I too wait until I have something I feel of importance to talk about before I start a New discussion on here as well. And as for Writing down ideas, I feel this is a Good way to do it, especially if you have a desire as I do, to eventually become a Published author. I feel writing down ideas and reading enriches our minds to be able to share something we feel is of importance. And to me, it really depends on what I am trying to get across as if I think about it awhile, or feel it is something that is important to share here. And as for Writers Block. Anyone who Writes here, or responds here, and says they have never experienced this is only lying to themselves, or does not care about the importance of this site, and thinking only about $$, and will probably not last here.

It's free therapy, in my opinion. I don't always feel like there are a lot of people around me I can talk to about things, not because they don't care, but because I don't want to burden them. It's far easier to tell things to people who don't know you than people who do, so many of my topics are about serious issues that affect me or those I love. On the other hand, I also like talking about hobbies of all types. So if I really couldn't think of anything to talk about, I'd just go in my bedroom and look at my bookshelf, or look around my living room at my DVD collection, or think about things I'm interested in that surely someone else out there much also enjoy. I do get writer's block sometimes, in which case I usually just relax and reply to other people's discussions for a bit. I haven't written much other than things I write on forums lately, because I just haven't been in the mood. Once in a while I write a poem or story, and I think the ones I write in that way are better than the hundreds I used to sling down in a given week.

i am a writer but i don't always write. that is such a big irony right? I mean, i get a lot of writer's block most of the time. when i face a blank page, nothing seems to come out of me. but when i am in a bus, or train or something... that's when the ideas suddenly come so i have to look out for a pen and paper to write the ideas before they fly away. but the bad thing is, most of the time, i wasn't able to jot them down. hehe. but i have to say that deadlines really help me to write. it's because i am forced to write up something real quick. hehe. but sometimes, i just get inspired by anything--news, people, rumors--- and then i suddenly come up with a story, a poem or anything then is just start writing. Ideas come like butterflies, as i've read from Writer's Magazine, the harder you chase it, the farther it moves away. but is you would just open your hand as you wait and let it land there, that's when, it will gently rest on your palms. :-)

good points, I bring a pen with me everywhere now and paper. I have a notebook and pen sitting in my car at all times lol. I also have notepad openned up on my computer at all times just for jotting down ideas. If you don't do these things and be prepared, you will forget all your ideas. Then you are back at square one staring at a blank piece of paper.

I had started writing with an intention to earn but now it has taken me into. I have been addicted to this now and spare most time in posting responses and starting my own disussions. Mylot has changed my interests from not too liking towards writing to most liked interest. Thanks to mylot

I usually look for interesting events and things in the news to discuss on here. Since I don't have a great wide range of outside knowlege myself, being painfully shy and mostly stuck doing online work at home for now, I find this is a great way for me to come up with topics that not only interest me, but sometimes gather a fair number of replies. I don't really get writer's block because of the sites that I use for inspiration to help me come up with new topics, coupled with the fact that I try not to start more than 5-6 new topics most days anyway, since there are some people who have complained that anything above 10 per day is too many, anyway, which I can kind of understand even though I like for the friends on my friend list to start lots of topics (as long as they're not just "do you like ___?" sort of topics, lol!)

I love to write. I find that once I sit down that the words usually flow. I have a web site where I have some short stories that I have written and I was lucky enough to have some non-fiction work published in a British magazine. I would like to be more successful in having my work published. I have often felt that having your work printed is a form of immortality as your words will live on after you are gone.

Life around me or things going on in the world that irritate me or make me think helps me write. I try to write about things that make me think or find a litle quirk or humor. Of course sometimes I sit down to write on my blog and nothing comes to mind. I actually wrote a post about having nothing to say. myLot is more of a discussion/debate type site for me. I enjoy seeing what people are thinking about and why.

what influences me to write? it varies of course. depends on my mood, either making a grocery list of goods to buy from a supermarket, or list some good movies to rent and watch them at home, or be it a note reminder and stick it in ur bedroom door so that u wont forget what to bring the next day on ur hang out with some friends. when i think i should write something, it depends on my mood. i do write but i dont have the desire to write anything at all. if i am that good to write something and make a compilation, i might become a legendary author and my book could be the best-selling masterpiece where ive put my hardwork and my sweats in it. it's like writing a personal diary, more likely, a journal. it's like writing WHAT YOUR LIFE IS LIKE... :)

I've been a "writer" since age 6 when I first felt Ok, putting words together in print. I kept journals since then, and used many for subject matter for published works. BTW, NO I don't have (WB). The way to combat it, or rather it's usual cause is that we have little to say at the moment, and perhaps IT has become "Work." Taking a break from work is a usual practice in society, as it should be with any creative effort. Writing, for me, is a "passion" and an addiction, as can be noted in my (Y Blog page). That doesn't say that I need to DO it 24/7, which often happens, but the fact that anyone has anything to express, even if it goes disregarded, speaks of that persons passion to relate thoughts, idea, goals, dreams, realities, fantasies, even if only for themselves. I'm about 57 years into it now, and likely will remain passionate about writing, as well as other pleasures. I can't imagine, in my case at least, that I'll ever consciously STOP. "Influences" need be no more than daily events, or memories recalled even through hearing a song lyric,,,OR can be as deep as a belief in having a "Muse." Steven Wolf

I'm pretty new here, but it appears to me that everyone seems to have something to say! I guess we all have life experiences that we all want to share and know that other people can relate to them.

For me, it is more depending to my mood on that particular day. If i am happy, i will write and write and if sad, i will leave my computer alone and going sweating it up.

I admit I've written some pretty stupid and random things, on and off mylot. But that's me being young and human :P I also love to write. Mainly stories, lyics, & books..but mylot's brought me out of my shell a little, gotten me to talk in depth on subjects I care alot about, and inspired me to start my new website -- writing articles on non-fiction things. Often my life inspires me to write..or a certain feeling at the time. Other times its friends, family..or nature :) I don't have writer's block frequently, just every now and again. ^_^ But when it does happen, it seriously does suck lol.

Yes, i do get writer blocks too, sometime its like im all thumbs, especially if the thread already has the answer that i like to add, dont want to sound redundant with my comment. The important thing is to write or comment on a discussion that you like and that you can relate too and freely words will come out and straight into the comouter. Goodluck!

Funny as it may seem, I have been at my creative best ever since I have come on to mylot (Haha you, that was just the day before!). The point I'm trying to make is that this is a place where you find a great many discussions like 'what is green?' and 'what is an atm?' but you also find tons of thought provoking discussions that just sets you thinking beyond the confines of your regular thinking. I have two blogs which I update quite regularly and I strongly suspect that they are shortly going to have lots of articles inspired by some of the discussions that I have had here at mylot. I mean, I just respond to a discussion, think more deeply about that and see if it can be expanded into something more full. I'm beginning to love it here!
