Have you ever had your water shut off to your home? When I woke up yesterday to take my shower there was no water. I called up the water service to fine out why I did not have water. I know I payed my water bill. Found out there was a water pipe that broke in the street down the block from me. I was not the only one that did not have water, it was turned off on three blocks. Was I mad, but I know it was not there fault things happend. But I had no water for 6 hours. Did this ever happen to you? how did you feel when you found out you had no water.

It's a strange feeling, not having any water. We've had to turn our water off and/or had it turned off for a few hours to a day before, because of problems either with a pipe in the area or with something to do with the piping in our house. It always seems like you can't do anything without water. You can't wash a dish that you've used to eat a meal on, you can't take a bath, you can't wash your hands.. it just seems like you almost cannot live without water. It's harder than having the electric go off, in a way.

When I was living in an off-campus apartment building when I was at college, the landlord did not pay the water bill and we subsequently had no water. Turns out he was using this to get the people that hadn't paid their rent to pay- all the while punishing those of us that paid up front. I was so mad and angry that I moved out the next semester even though I had signed a lease agreement for longer than that. Slum lords.... You got to love them.

Ah..babystar1 ..sorry to hear that you woke up to no water. I havent had water turned off; but, one winter when it was really cold my pipes froze and that was a two day ordeal..After that happened, my landlords came over and wrapped foam around all the pipes and have never had the same problem since. I can sympathize with you, though, nothing like buying bottled water for washing and bodily needs;)+

We had a house once that the meter was burind but only a few inches below the grass level. In fact it set in a bit of a hole. Well, on winter is was so cold it froze and we had no water. That was bad. Can't remember how lond it was til we had water. Didn't seem to be long, I think hubby went out in the cold and got it thawed somehow. Sure is an inconvenience when it happens.

I live in the country so I have a well... Our well is filled by a non-stop stream underground. So no never in my home did I lose water... Not even when it's super cold-- People's water freezes-- We leave ours to drip. However at work, we have had the water shut off.. For hours at a time for 1 week. This really stunk-- No going to the bathroom- no washing hands... Just gross! I was pretty sure they had to send us home due to no water- but they said no. I feel for you! I hope its back on soon!

Ohhhhhhh. It often happens at our home and happened today too. I came from my acedmy and there was no water in our water container and i could n't even wash my hands. When light came and then we filled our water tanki {water container} with the help of electric motor. It happened with us that once, a worker came at our home and said to us that we r blocking ur water and will broke ur water pipe line but he came with misconception and my brother called Father and then he went away. Whenever water does n't come at our home due to any problem in city pipe line then no doubt, we get angry.

thankfully it has never happened to us. I live in a place where it gets very cold and somehow the apartment turned off all hot water. we live with a kid and when we opened the taps the water was freezing cold. but then i can imagine how frustrating it will be for places where there is no water at all.

yeah that also happens to us. but the management of the water company gives us an alert when will be the scheduled. they do that everytime they have something to do with the pipes. having no water is like at the faucet, i feel thirsty.. its like i have to drink or im jsut feel a bit uncomfortable. we all know water is more important that electricity.

This did happen to me about a year and a half ago. I was working at the time and had to be to work that morning, I never worked mornings so I jumped right up out of bed and went in to take my shower and there was no water. I called the water company and they said that they were doing some repairs and that my water would be back on later that day. I had to go to work unshowered and feeling dirty. When I got home the water was still not on, so I called again they said that there had been an accident while doing the repairs and they would have it on shortly. That accident cost us three days without water and my kids and I had to go and stay in a hotel. I was more than mad over this.

Only once without warning. I went into the shower and it just made funny sounds. I turned it off and continued getting ready for work (I work an office job, I don't need to shower every day, though I usually do) I walked out to the parking lot and someone during the night had hit a fire hydrant. The parking lot was lower than the buildings, thank the heavens, but there were a dozen cars or so half under water. I imagine that is much worse than not having any water.

We've had ours turned off before with no prior warning. We found out though that they only (apparently) turn it off without prior warning if there's some kind of emergency like a broken pipe or something. I remember receiving a notice through my letter slot one day telling us that our water would be turned off the next day for the water board to do some "Routine Maintenance". We cleaned the bath out and rinsed it thoroughly then filled it with cold water so we wouldn't have buckets of water everywhere (not good with kids running around). We got up the next morning to find the water switched off as the notice said. They'd stated that it would be switched on by lunchtime. At dinner we still had no water. We finally got it switched back on around 9pm that night. It brought home to me just how much water we use in a day without even thinking about it. It's crazy.

That was a long time without water. But that was nice that they gave you a warning. This way you had time to fill up your sinks tub and your buckets. I would did the same thing if I had a warning. Thanks for your comment.

Yes, I've had a similar thing happen. There was a water main break at night, so, htey didn't have any time to warn residents that it would be turned off. It's a weird feeling. We had enough bottled water to drink, and had already woken up and flushed toilets, so, there was no water in the toilet tanks either. It just goes to show how unprepared most of us are when it comes to things like this.

you would be glad to know my story then . Once in the morning i had a great stomach problem so i in my bathroom when the locality water supply went off. It seemed the local authorities had warned the locality earlier but i wasnt there since i was in the office . I was stranded in the bath room on the comode without ne water...

Yes, a few times, but never without warning. The water authorities here in the UK are pretty good at "warning" people in advance if they need to cut the supply, so you can be prepared. From time to time, one knows it has t be cut off for essential maintenance etc, so as long as the warning allows you time to fill up loads of bowls, and buckets, I don't find it too much of a problem . If it should ever go on for too long, I can always drive to my Father's house for a bath, or shower.

yes this has happened to me many a times. I live in a mobile home park and they have their own water plant well the pipes are always breaking or something goes wrong. they shut it off all the time and usually with out notice it is rathe frustrating. especially when you are in the middle of a shower or you are doing laundry.

I've had the same experience. Not only was I mad, I was immobilized! I had planned to be somewhere that afternoon and I postponed my bath till about an hour before I was to go out of my house. I didnt notice that water was cut-oof till the last minute. I gathered water from the laundry area (this was water saved for the wahser). Hey I had no choice. It suddenly occured to me, without water, I simply could not function. And I am not even talking about water for nourishment, just water for the cleaning up that we have to do everyday. The moral of the story? We have to be responsible in protecting our water system. Report leakages, call people's attention to water problems, influence others to be responsible as well, and be committed to being a water conservationist.
