Do you brush your pet's teeth?

Do you brush your pet's teeth? Or do you take them to the vet to get their teeth cleaned? I have 4 cats and they won't let me get close enough to them to brush their teeth. And holding them down long enough to brush would mean lots of scratches for me. Brushing my cats' teeth would be like trying to give them a bath.

I give my cats the dental pet treats that are available so I don't have to worry about brushing their teeth. However the Ginger one in my avatar picture does like to do his own, whenever I'm filing my nails he'll come and sit by me, bear his fangs and rub them on the nail file. At first I thought he was going to chew it, but if you hold it at the right angle he'll rub both sides of his teeth on the file. Its funny to watch, I'll have to get him to teach the other cat!!

No way. I have enough of a hard time trying to trim their claws. A toothbrush, nooooooooooooo. I have tried, and they get so stressed out. So, I just give them dry food and good dry treats and hope that helps the tarter a little.

Trimming the cat's claws - that's something that I haven't tried. I don't think that they would hold still for trimming anymore than they do for tooth brushing.

I never brush my cats teeth because they don't like me putting my fingers in their mouths. Usually if the vet says they really need a cleaning, I will let them do it if it is absolutely necessary because they have to be put under anesthesia for it. My vet usually won't clean their teeth unless it looks like they have a tooth that needs to come out or if they have very bad gums. I have known of some vets who like to have the cats teeth cleaned every year but I don't want my cats to be put under anesthesia unless they really have to be.

HAHAHA I'm just trying to get a mental image of trying to brush my guinea pigs' teeth, lol. I don't brush any of my animals teeth, I do buy treats for the dog and the guinea pig which are suppose to aid in the cleaning process, the cat is far too fussy for stuff like that...she firmly believes she is ABOVE treats, lol. I can't imagine even making an attempt at cleaning any of their teeth.

I have done this from time to time. I bought tooth paste for them from the vet. It was like ten dollars I would never spend that on tooth paste for myself. What we won't do for our pet!!!! They do not like when I bruxh them I'm sure the toothpaste will last me a life time.

I brush my dogs teeth with fruit toothpaste (his favorite) and he usually grabs the toothbrush away from me and nibble it. lol. Seriously, he loves the taste of toothpaste!

I tried the teeth brushing with my dogs a few times but gave up. Both my dogs and cats get dental treats every day and their teeth are in great shape. Especially for my 10yr.old cat that I have pictured.
