What happens exactly when you rate someone's response or discussion positive or negative? Does it affect the little star next to the user's name at all?

if we rate others either positively then the rating the number beside the name may increase.if we give negative then the number will decrease.so it just change the rating.if anybody constantly gets a negative from most of the users then there is a chance that he may get low repuatation.reputation depends on your quality of response, number of responses, best responses also.

I heard that from some people whose ratings are down, that somebody must have been rating them negative. I think it is possible. I also heard some people complained that their stars are down after a few days they are not active, this one I'm not sure what to say. I think rating discussions will affect more than rating responses. If it's only negative responses, for sure I have mine, venting against animal abuser's discussions for example.

Yes I was kind of venting against animal haters and those who think killing animals are OK. who knows what rating they gave me since I guess I upset them. I hope your rating gets better.

Well, just because you have a negative response doesn't mean that people should rate your response as negative right? I mean people are entitled to their own views...

yeah it does effect the user ratings to whom you give marks. +ve mark will raise the number and -ve marking decrease the number and (!) exclaimation sign is for report abuse. use it sensibly...!!!

yes the positive + and negative - ratings do affect your star [when you get one - make 100 posts first] and in turn will have an impact on the money you are making Mylot terms clearly state that you can only give a negative if an answer is something like "no" or a comment that doesn't have anything to do with the original question. You can't just give it because you don't agree with someone.

I've also seen people with more than 100 posts but no star next to their name, does that mean that they haven't been even rated at all?

I noticed that too but some of friends said they don't get rating until they get to 100 postings
