Today I put my size tens it and I just wanted to ground to swallow me up. Because I am unemployed I go to a Jobclub to help me find work, there is this lovely lady there, I am always asking after her and I hadn't seen her for some time so I made a real fuss of her. She told me some bad news, her mum had just died and that she didn't get the job she went after, she is qualified, beautiful personality, kind and would help anyone. The reason she didn't get the job, she took the rap for her son caught in possession with cannabis, she took the blame to protect her son and got a prison sentence. On this grounds she didn't get the job. She was honest because it was on her record. I was so disappointed for her that I happen to say that they'd be happy to employ a child molester, (there has been so many cases where jobs working with children are given to child molesters) only I didn't realize that the lady who ran the Jobclub group worked for the same company that had refused her the job! She gave me a dirty look which said it all. I was so mortified, I had to apologize and told her I didn't mean her company, I meant as a rule and besides she knows full well I feel strongly about child abusers. Ever put your foot in it? Thankfully she accepted it!

Put your foot in it!! - Put your foot in it.
How embarrassing for you!! I remember when a new kid started our nursery and I asked the woman who brought him in if she was his nan. She gave me a filthy look and quite abruptly told me she was his mother. I felt really awkward and did not know what to say, now I just don't ask until I know for sure. I remember when I used to work in the theatre and I was dressing the dancers. A rumor was going around that one of dancers, who was so prim and proper, was sleeping with the leading man. I thought this could in no way be true, so I boldly walked into the dressingroom one day and said "You won't believe what people are saying, your're sleeping with ..." The whole room went silent. Later I found out it was true. I felt awful and it was quite uncomfortable dressing her for a while afterwards. It's always the quiet ones!!!

Oh my - how embarrassing! I think the worst time I ever put my foot in it, was when I was on a training course once, and sitting next to this lady I had not met before. She was quite an attractive women, and not particularly fat, but she did have quite a plump stomach area, so rather stupidly I made the mistake of asking "when's the baby due?" She just snapped back that she wasn't pregnant - just fat:-(( And I was moritifed!

Yes, many times, the other day I was helping out my stepdaughter putting a bandaide on her hand cause her sister had pushed her off her bike (you know sisters) anyways I was trying to cheer her up and as I was walking through the house to take her back to her bike I told her that I thought she would just stand up to her sister and not take the abuse anymore and walked right into her sister when I said it. I didn't know what to do or say at that point, I was caught, I laughed and smiled and said I didn't mean for her to be mean and confronted her with what I had said. She smiled and accepted it. Boy I hate that feeling ...

Ohh myyy that was a size '20' boot wasn't it .. I'm always saying things that I mean well but just don't come out quite as i had planned them to .. and then once I've made the gaffe I just start digging deeper and deeper trying to correct myself .. DOH!! I now have the decency to just say .. 'I am sorry, that didn't sound quite right' .. 'may I apologise' .. and move quickly on .. it seems better than trying to talk my way out of the boo boo I've made ..

I've put my foot into things quite often. Not as much recently although I do feel bad when I do this. I always say I'm sorry too, although sometimes this doesn't make up for everything. (only a start) Now I don't really says which might land me into trouble because it's best thing. normally It comes out in the wrong way more than anything. Kudos! ~Joey

I don't know about England but do you only have one employment agency there? In Canada we have like 4 temporary employment agencies and I used to get jobs from them too. About putting my foot in it, of course I did, but I only apologized if I was mistaken not if I was right. I'm such a rebel it's strange people did employ me LOL
