How do you get your children to STOP picking their nose and eating the booger?

Oldest boy, grandson #1 - This is my cutie pie Chase. He does NOT pick his nose anymore, thank goodness!

I find this habit so gross. I have no idea how or where they picked it up but the oldest two boys have both done it. The oldest boy who is almost 8 now seems to have stopped eating the boogers but the youngest has not and he even sneaks off to do it now since we ALWAYS tell him not to when we catch him doing it. I had hoped that when the middle boy who is 5 years old and just started Kindergarten would stop doing it once he made friends at school. I thought peer pressure would help him quit doing it but nope, not so far it hasn't. Does anyone else have this problem and what have you done to put a stop to it? We've tried so many different things already that I am hoping someone can help with a new idea, please?

i have a lil brother 8yrs old. he is so gross. he licks his finger and put it on his nose, then do it again, and again. actually here in the philippines parents are allowed to spank their children. at first we did that but nothing happened he would just cry. then i always scowled him everytime i see him trying to put his finger on his nose. it went for 3 weeks that i always slap his hand away from hise nose. now he doesnt do it anymore. you just have to be consistent not to let him do it.

I think that is the funniest thing ever. I know you think it is gross but guess what?! You did it too. You grew out of it so will he. Only time will tell. My hubby gets grossed out when my little one does it. I just sit there and laugh. THere is nothing you can really do about it... the only other option you have it to teach him how to pick and flick. But you dont want boogs all over your house. Good luck and give him tome.

Well, and this may seem mean, but it is much more sanitary - my aunt used to soak my cousin's fingertips in really really hot hot sauce. Every time he picked his nose it would burn. So she didn't even have to break him of eating the boogers, because she broke the picking the nose habit first. You might try vix vapor rub as well. It isn't harmful if a child tastes only a little.
