My Hunter the cat was 10 years old and an indoor cat. He was my companion through illness and broken hearts. I lived on the first floor apt and never had trouble from anyone. One Sunday I went visiting and left Hunt's favorite sunny window open for him to sleep in. Someone, while I was gone, pushed poisoned meat thru the screen and Hunt ate it. When I came home he was foaming at the mouth, running to me and yelling in the worse voice. No vet clinic was open and I tried calling Poison Control who told me to stuff mustard and milk down him. He bit me so much I had chunks of skin missing from 3 fingers. Finally one vet returned my emergency call and I took him there. Since I was gone for 4 hours and another hour had passed, we had no way of knowing how much he ate or how long the poison was in him. He was still screaming and writhing in pain and I had the doctor put him to sleep. There was nothing anyone could do once it hit my cat's nervous system. That was 9 years ago. Sometimes I still hear him calling for me in my sleep.

People out there are pretty disgusting, eh? To the point of being ill even! Imagine what would be going through a persons mind to harm an animal like that. I'm an animal lover myself and I'm so sorry that you had to lose your cat in such an uncalled for way! If it was a kid that did this they should be going to juvenile detention (with mental help) and if it was an adult they should be thrown in jail (with mental help). It's a sad reality that people who harm animals never seem to get a rough enough sentense though. I'm sure your cat is up in heaven right now sleeping on a nice fluffy cloud watching every move you make!

I wish I could have found the culprit. I would have done more than hurt them.

That is awful...what kind of person would do that. Because of people like I don't even leave my dogs alone out in the yard, if my dogs are outside, I am outside with them or at the back door watching them. That poor cat suffered something terrible, you did the right thing putting him down, as hard as that was for you. I take it you never found the person, did you move or are you in the same place.

That was the saddest story I have ever read why would a person ever hurt a animal if they don't like them then why don't they just move away instead of killing the poor thing. I think people who get funnyness out of it or fun, I think we should stand up to those people and do it to them to see how they like it or how they feel, so they know all what those pets have gone through when they did that to them. And I'm sorry to see that one of those mean people got to your cat, I also wish Hunter was here he looked like a very good loving cat.

Not anyone I had to poison my dog myself and I had no other option expect it. He was going thru some mysterios disease in which his body had started rotting. it is the thing of 3 years back. I gave him as much as cure I could. Even there were big insects took birth in in rotting body. He was going thru miserable condition. I had no other option expect giving him freedom from his life. I don't know I did rite or wrong. I don't know it made me sinner in God's eyes or not. But I did what I felt right at that time

When I was very young our Dog was poisoned I was a bit too young to understand but I do remember the Dog frothing from the mouth. It's sad that anybody could stoop so low to do something like that... Sorry to hear about your cat it must still hurt allot to think about it. You Love your pets as if they are Humans and your own family it is horrible when you loose them..

One of our cats was several years ago. He used to go outside and he'd go over into the neighbors yard to lay down in it. We went to go out and saw him coming back and he seemed a bit off but we didn't think much about it. We got him in the house and we came back several hours later. We found him panting and shaking. We got him to the vet but it was too late. There was nothing they could do and we had him put to sleep so he wouldn't suffer any more. They said it looked like radiator fluid poisoning. We have a pretty good idea who did it but we never had proof and because we didn't see it the cops couldn't do a thing. To this day it still gets me that someone could do that to a living creature that way. It's one thing to hunt or what have you but it's another to poison an animal like that especially an animal that never harmed anyone. He was a very gentle cat. He just liked to lay out in the sun. It really, really amazes me how cruel humans can be at times.

Oh my god! What a heart breaking story, I actually got teary eyed while reading it. I'm so sorry for your lost, while it is not so recent, it's something that has stuck with you and still haunts you today. I'm also so sorry that there are some people in this world who are clearly monsters. I can't imagine what that must have been like for you to see your friend tourtured so much, and having to wait so long for help. I'm glad a vet got back to you, even if it was just to help you end Hunters suffering. Nothing like this has ever happened to me, but I will take your story as a word of warning. There was a rash or people stealing dogs from the neighborhood I grew up in, and then selling them to science labs. My mom has a dog so I told her to make sure to keep an eye one her. We also have problems with coyote. Again, I am so sorry you had to go through that. Best wishes.
