Some are weather resistant, some aren't, and some just get put in the wrong place. Pruning needs to be done with an objective in mind. Common wisdom on roses is that you open up the plant, so that when it grows, you don't get them too bushy, which can cause problems with pests and molds spreading among the denser foliage. So you wind up with a forked plant, growing to keep the rose properly spread. Particularly important with miniatures is that they are much smaller plants, and in a garden bed they're closer to the ground and at a little more risk from pests and molds, because they get water splash from the soil, too, which larger species avoid. They don't get large, but will need a little extra space from other plants in the garden. See how they grow in the first year, and that will work as a general rule of thumb for size. They're good use of space, and can do a lot for smaller areas. Roses are tougher than their reputation, and are good survivors if they get a chance. Generally all you need to do for a healthy plant is some basic spraying and pruning. If they don't work in a garden bed, they also do well in hanging baskets, about medium size.

I would say research on the net is the best way to get some info on this, that is unless a gardner is gonna grace this discussion
