Is Spongebob Squarepants is a bad for children? Do you let your kids watch it?

My mother hates spongebob squarepants and I tolerate it because my little sisiter loves watching it. I haven't a clue as to why she likes it so much. At times I find him so annoying and a bad influence. Especially when she wants to act like songebob after watching it. I know they are alot of people here who love spongebob, can you tell us why and what draws you to this cartoon? My mother also never let me watch The Simpsons while I was growing up. So, do you love it, hate, tolerate it,? Why is a sponge so popular?

I can't say it's a horrible show for children. I have seen worse, but.. once, there was an episode where they were constantly saying the F word and blepping it out with a loud "honk" as a joke. Wasn't that funny, and very inappropriate for kids if you ask me... I would say, no to 90% of the "kids" cartoons that come out now days, they are all perverted.

Well, I let my kid watch it. That's here favorite TV show. However, I have a few friends that will not let their kids watch spongebob because they say he is "too stupid". I think that this is a problem because when the kids go to school they will probably talk about the newest episode of Spongebob. Then the kids not able to watch spongbob will probably be made fun of and then go to a friends house and watch it anyways. So in short is might just be a good idea to let them watch it.

My brother lets his kids watch it, so when she is there she gets to watch it. My mother never even let me and my siblings watch The Simpsons cartoon show. I would rather her get out and play then watch alot of t.v. but I do let her watch t.v. but I try to find other things she likes before I will let her watch Spongebob. My mom doesn't even like Jim Carrey movies Which I love so I understand not being able to watch things so I do ocassionally let her when she is here at my home 2-3 times a week.Thanks for the post.

I know there are a lo of people who don't like Spongebob cartoons for whatever reason. I personally think it's a really funny show. I watch it along with my daughter. We don't have cable so I bought her a collection of dvd's over the last few years. I find myself watching rght along with her a lot of the time.

i dont think spongebob is bad for kids. i think its funny. my niece loves watching it and sometimes i watch along with her. if some think that it has some bad contents which are not suitable for kids, then the parents should tell their kids to not imitate it.

There are some things that happen on spongebob that I do not think is appropiate and hope that my sister does not imitate anyhting he does. I don't like the hitting that sometimes happens on spongebob. But I think it is okay for older children but 9 and down not so good. Well thanks for the response to my discussion I appreciate it alot. Most of the children I know in my neigbourhood know spongebob. I watch them with daughter. As a matter of fact, I love watching most of children cartoons.
My daughter and her friends also nephews love it when they start talking about spongebob. I know exactly what they're talking about and they let me involved in their conversation which I found very amuzing. The first cartoon that my daughter can draw in no time is spongebob.

I get my little sister 2-3 times a week to give my mom a break and I watch cartoons with my little sister all the time. When we go to the stores and she sees spongebob products that has him on the front she always wants them even if she never eats the stuff or uses it. Thanks for the reply I appreciate it.

I don't think spongebob is bad at all. Its not really educational but why would it be its on Nickelodean which the only educational thing on it is Nick news and the kiddy shows. Spongebob is merely for entertainment and not for teaching kids. Sometimes a moral lesson is taught here and there like " be yourself" "everything that looks good isn't" you know? Well, sometimes its pointless but its a cartoon.

My little sister loves the backyardigans,dora the explorer and go diego go and clifford the big red dog. We try to steer her in those directions when they are on but when they aren't on and spongebob is I let her watch it once in awhile my mom doesn't though. she has a thing about sponges going around with thing underwear and swimwear.. I agree that eduacational shows are best. Thanks for replying to my post I appreciate it.

My neice used to watch Spongebob. Loved him actually. I tolerated him because of it. Some of his shows did have some moral lessons to them but I agree over all it's vry annoying. The worst part is though it suckers you in. You could be walking past and the next thing you know you are watching it. I don't know why it does it or now but it will. Thankfully she hates him now and is on to other shows. I no longer have to suffer.

I don't think that spongebob is bad for kids, it is a little annoying. I will admit that i watch it sometimes. The only thing i don't like is the burping, name calling & fighting. I wish they would cut that out because that could influence young children.

I think 75% of the cartoons now days has some form of fighting in them. pokemon,Avatar,etc..they want children to be less voilent but they are setting them up to be mean and bullies by the t.v. programs they produce. Thanks for your opinion and post to my discussion I appreciate it.
