How does a Cable Modems use electricity?

Because it is hooked up to the computer and therefore uses electricity. If you have ever had your computer (with dial up modem) in a time when you don't have electric you cannot use the modem to dial up an internet connection because the computer has no power. You would need a laptop with power to use a modem. For more information you can look on this website: www.howstuffworks.com and search for cable modems.
