If you've ever downloaded a free trial of a game...

have you later purchased the complete version of it? I'm just wondering how effective this marketing style is. I myself download a new game almost every day. I check bigfishgames.com to see what they have new that day and if it looks even remotely interesting, I give it a try. Usually I just play the hour long trial and then delete the game, but now and then one will really catch my attention and I'll purchase the full version. I think of the hundreds of games I've tried this way, I've only purchased five or six.

I download these all the time. It sucks though because I have dial up and it takes about 3-10 hours to download a single game, but its fun. I can get quite far with the trials. And as bad as I want the games, I'd never enter a code to get them. Might buy them discount (which I'm happy with bigfishgames because of they seem to be selling them for like $7.00 a piece), but not get them like that.

once in a great while ill go to bigfish games lately. Or i signed up for a membership at shockwave.com where you can play as many games as long as you want and the trial never ends as long as your a member and if you want to purchase a game then you have already tried the game, they seem to have a couple new games every week.

I did that on Real Arcade for a while. Then I needed to cancel the account for a couple of months to free up some spending money for Christmas, and it was a nightmare to get them to cancel it! I had intended on rejoining after the holidays (this was a few years back) but needless to say I did not. Have you ever tried to cancel with ShockWave? I wonder if their customer service is any better... BigFish has a subscription service too, but I don't know what all the terms are.

I've joined Real Arcade twice and had no problem at all unsubscribing from them. My two favourites are definitely Real Arcade and Bigfish Games. I love trying out new games and if I really, really like one I'll purchase the full game, but usually I just enjoy the trial offers.

I've stopped by bigfish once in a while and was using shockwave for a few months too as a member but that got kind of expensive. I like trying the trial games but I've only bought two full version games this way, Cake Mania and Snowy's Lunch Rush. I'm thinking of getting the Ravenhearst game but I'm still not sure yet.

Ravenhearst was a lot of fun, but I never buy those. If you download the trial from pogo.com, you can play it as long as you want, in one sitting. I can usually finish those games all at once on a Saturday, so I don't bother purchasing them.

I just posted a discussion, where I wanted to have your opinion - I just want to know how safe are these free trails - dont they trcik us in any ways ..? I mean is is safe to try them... what has been your expreince - say If i try them, and cancel before expiry date.. will my money be safe ? Eg, if we get a 15 day trail, and i cancel it on 12th .. would that be fine? It will be great if u can comnet on my last discusion - i just posted it a few minutes back - i wouiuld really apprecited if I can have views of someone experienced like u. Thanks.

Many are very safe, but it's important to trust the site you're downloading from. Going to look up your discussion now...

You sound like me! I've played almost all of their games, and just recently bought my first one! And that was just because I got the 6.99 deal! I've wondered the same thing. I think it DOES work though because an hour gets you to the good stuff and then BAM, it's over! But if you buy it, you can continue!

I will download the free trial game and give it a go. If it seems interesting, fun, or my kids enjoy it, I will go ahead and buy it. It also depends on how much it is. Some sites offer the same game as other sites for 1/2 price. That is a big seller for me, also! :)

I have done this on a couple of occasions as I downloaded Jewel of Atlantis from the Aol games website and tried it out til the trial time ran out. I then bought it and got addicted to it. I have not played it recently due to being on myLot more but I love this game. I also did this with another game on that website but do not remember the name of the game. I only have done this twice. My mom got me addicted. LOL

I do that most of the time too. I did purchase the long version of Bejeweled though. I usually would rather buy the game at Walmart or someplace like that though.

I have bought games that I tried the trial before. There is another site besides BigFish that I've bought from... can't think of it. I don't think I bought any from BigFish. I've bought 3 CD's. I like to have the games on CD just in case, so I buy many games to make it worth purchasing the CD they put them on. I think I've bought 12 or so games. I haven't played any games in a long time, but I went through a phase when I was addicted to them and had to play every day.

I don't buy any of these games. I merely note it down and search it in another site. plus some of my friends have a lot of games and I get it from them. when you can get virus free games, without paying for it, why take pains in buying it. though the downloaded or the other version my friend has may be trial but it doesn't have time or any limit, and most of them are full version..

Personally I'm not a big fan of piracy... If the game is good enough for me to want the full version, the developer/designer etc deserve their due.
