When you are visiting a tourist destination in your own country, do you guide foreign tourists you may come across, actively? If you have knowledge of the history of the place, architecture, aesthetics etc. can you resist yourself from oozing out information?
Recently, I went to Hampi, a world heritage destination in South India. I found two German tourists a father and a son, closely looking at the architecture and sculptures and trying to make out meanings. I tried to help them to the best of my knowledge, as there was no formal qualified tourist guide nearby.
Later, however, I felt that I was unnecessarily intrusive and inconvenienced them.
This problem, I am not sure, but believe, that many domestic citizens face at tourist centres. What should be the correct approach?
