Get Rid of Typos and Spelling Mistakes in your Mylot Posts

Many of us here do not have English as their mother tongue. Other native English speaking members type so fast, which results in some typos slipping in their posts. I use Firefox 2.0 to surf on the internet. This browser comes with an integrated spelling checker. As I type my MyLot responses, the checker highlights in red all the wrong words. English was the default language, when I installed the browser. Though, it is possible to add other languages, you just need to click on the right button of your mouse, choose Languages from the menu, then Add dictionaries. a multitude of languages are already supported. I think this is an essential tool for many Mylotters. It will help them to drastically improve the quality of their posts, spelling-wise without the need to consult a dictionary every other 5 minutes. finally, this is where you can download this free browser: http://getfirefox.com

I would use Firefox, but it is not compatible with some of the normal sites I use. I agree, Firefox is miles ahead of internet explorer. I could sure use a spell checker.

It is a shame that there are still web designers who only make pages for IE. Personally, I never had a problem displaying a web page with Firefox. The incompatibility issue was even worse a few years ago.

Another great tip! I use FireFox as my main browser and I didn't even know it had a spellchecker. Cool! I learn something new on Mylot everyday!

Which version are you using? The bundled spell checker only comes with Firefox 2.0 (If memory serves, Firefox 1.5 did not have this feature). If you use Firefox 2.0, generally the browser will correct you whenever you make a typo or mistake. My guess is that you are using an older version of Firefox.

It is interesting to know that Opera has it too. I like the feature of opera that reads web pages aloud.

I started a similar discussion thread here about people taking more care with their spelling and grammar but it didn't go down too well. It wasn't aimed at people who don't speak English as their first language but more towards people who type i instead of I when referring to themselves or use text speak in their reponses here. I hope people take notice of the little tool you've recommended, there are many people here who would benefit from it :)

Yeah, I noticed the discussion that you had started about spelling and grammar and I agree with the points that you brought up in that discussion.

That's a great tip for those that are willing to change browsers. I think another good tool is babelfish.altavista.com where you can type in your own language and then translate it to english. I think a lot of problems for the non english is knowing how to say things. So the combination of both would allow those members to earn more, I am sure.
