Who would you save? The family pet or the person?

Let's say your having a calm day at the beach, but there always this guy pestering people, maybe his drunk, maybe his on drugs or maybe his just a plain idiot.
Something happens and you find that both you family pet and him are drowning, so what would you do?
a) you'd save the person
b) you'd save the family pet
So what do you think you'd do and why, save the family pet that's family to you or save the guy even though he seemed like a real annoying person?
I myself think it would be a real dilemma and have no idea how I'd react!

Well i'm affraid i am a total animal lover and my pets are like one of the family, so i'd save my pet first, if the idiot person is still floating by the time i've got my pet to safety, i'll go back and get him...lol...who knows what any of us would do if this was a real senario, easy to comment on but how would we be in a real situation? who knows...are basic instincts kick in then and no one knows what they would do

Truly, that is one of the hardest questions i think i have ever been asked...
My pets are my babies, i couldn't live without them.... but i would never let a person die if there was something i could do either...
I think i would try to save both and die trying. that's the best i can come up with... because i couldn't cope with the idea that i would have to let one die just to save the other. no matter how annoying that person was.

To me there is no dilemma. A human life has more value than an animal. I don't care what is wrong with that human, I would save the human first. After all, you could eventually replace the family pet, but, you couldn't replace someone's family member. Don't get me wrong, I love my animals, but, people are top priority.

I'd probably try to safe both.
No reason why I could attempt to manage swimming back with both and if I couldn't do that I would swim back to get the other. if it was a dog i wouldn't have to worry as much, they're great swimmers.

I think the person rather than the pet. The life of that person is very important and the life of your family pet can change it to a new one.
