I really want to spend more time biking...currently I spend little or no time but I want to do more, and time is a big factor because I work 5 days a week. So I am thinking I should try to get fit enough to bike to work because it's only about 13 miles. But I wonder if I can do that long trip daily so please tell me how regularly and how many miles you normally bike. I remember one person who used to go biking on weekends and get in as much as 60 miles...which is like so incredible, I can't even begin to conceive of reaching that...am I just too wimpy or what?! LOL

No, you are definitely not wimpy, but when somebody mentions a feat like doing 60 miles, you ought to take into account the practice that the person would have got. Though I haven't done much of biking lately, I'm a major bicycling nut and I used to pedal the fifteen kilometers to my college everyday, meaning a thirty km round trip. On weekends, I would often top a hundred kilometers. The longest distance i have been in a single day is a hundred and fifty kilometers. The first time I crossed hundred miles was something special. Though I had been wanting to do it for a long time and being in a good state of fitness, the three digit magic number seemed to be a daunting task and I kept procrastinating. Then, one fine day, I happened to watch the movie Forrest Gump. That movie changed it all. Inspired by Gump's cross country run, I started off on my hundred km bike run. I have completed such runs several times now. Don't get daunted by numbers. Start small and work up your fitness levels. As you gain fitness, your muscles too get toned and adjusted to the extra need. Before you know it, you will become a serious mile-eater! All the very best and happy bicycling!
