Do you get "involved" with TV characters?

I sat and listened with great amusement as some of my friends worried themselves into panic about whether or not this character from Grey's Anatomy was going to die. Meredith? I think that was the name. I couldn't help but laugh and call for the Prozac to be passed around to them all, they were and are just frantic about it.
I admit, there are shows that just wouldn't be the same without certain characters and probably would go off the air, but I don't go to bed worried about them. It just tickled the life out of me watching and listening to them.
Geez, I hope for their sakes that she is alright lol

Some people get so involved in soaps especially that they begin to lose the connection between reality and make up! I.e one soap character was put into prison for a crime she didn't commit and there was a protest about it, people signing protest forms and putting their signature to things which weren't real life. Actors playing bad roles or evil roles in soap are attacked in real life and sworn at, because people don't see them as real people, only the characters that they portray! It is farcical! And I do feel sorry for actors who have to play bad parts, villains and conmen in soaps because to some they become the same part in real life too! It's only a soap! But no people take it far more seriously!

I agree with you. Just look at the stalking that some celebrities have had to deal with because someone thought they were in love with a character played by them and could not separate real from fantasy, many to the point of dangerous obsession. Fran Drescher went theough a horrendous rape, with her husband tied up and made to watch. Many have been killed, maimed and tormented psychologically. Then there is a flip side, when some celebrities seem to see themselves as the character they portray.

Your question sure made me think a bit. When I was younger I used to get very involved with the characters of the shows I watched, especially the serials. Whenever something happens to the characters I will be so caught up in the story that I can't wait for the next episode so that I can follow up. And, if I ever missed the last episode due to whatever reason, I would be so upset that it affects me for days. Now on hindsight, the overeaction seems really ridiculous and unwarranted. Now, maybe as I age, my perspective has changed I suppose with the lessons which life has taught me and I watch these shows more objectively. In fact, now I spend more time on the computer than the television so it does not affect me so much.

As you know, I get involved with them...LOL. In college, I missed class one time just so I could watch Ross and Rachel on Friends, (they were either breaking up or getting together, can't remember which one). I'm the one who needs the prozac...
