Reporting closed credit card accounts?

Since we had a good refund this year on our taxes, we have decided to pay off, then closing at least one of our accounts (we have 2 other accounts we are paying infull but keeping them open JIC we need them). The account that we have chosen has been paid off and we called the company to tell them to close the account. We are also going to send them a letter. I know this can take awhile to show up on a credit report. To ensure that it does, ahould we submit letters to each of the credit reporting companies stating that the account was paid in full and then closed or should we just run a credit report in a month or two to make sure the account is closed?

Send the letter by certified mail like you should do any legal document, then also send the credit reporting agencies a copy, if you can afford it, also certified. People like to claim they never received anything. In addition think hard before you cancel this card. When you go for credit in the future, remember they like to see broke people, not people that don't need them. You can always put this card in the emergancy box. Use it just enough to keep it active.

That is good, it is ashame that people had to go through so much down there. But on the same token as unfortunate as it is, we always need something to make our Govt. act right and handle bus. Thank you for the response checkmark, somehow I went down a level.

I think you are wise to pay off what you can and get rid of it. Having a couple of cards is fine but as I'm sure you know if you have them there it's easy to use even if you don't need to. Yes I'd go ahead and send a letter as well. It doesn't hurt to. Send it certified if possible. Then in a month or two if you can run a credit report to see how everything looks. This way if there is a problem you have proof of everything and have it on hand.
