When do you rate a discussion? I feel that if I took the time to respond to the discussion that I should at least click on that positive. If I read a discussion and find it interesting but have nothing to add I also rate it positive. I never rate a discussion as negative. How about you do you always rate, never rate?

I agree with cuddleme. I have never tried rating a discussion negative but i would if it was purposely being hateful and all. Any discussion that interest me and are worthwhile deserves a positive. Of course, that is to return the favor to all those people who rated mine positive too.

I do rate discussions and topics that interest me and also those topics that have impressed me. I rarely rate negatively, i usually reserve it to spammers and those users who are responding sensely to discussions mostly on a one line response. I never rate a user just because he contradicted with my point of view, in fact i admire those persons since they have been brave to voice out their own self and not kiss other users a$$ cheers.

                            Isn't that being rather self-centred?

It takes a split second to hit the "+" and I am sure you can find that amount of time.

Right! I alway take the time to rate a discussion I read even if I don't post in it.

i give positive ratings to discussions which are really meaningful ones. oftentimes i give the ratings to the discussions i responded to. i seldom give negative ratings only when the discussions is hateful, obscene or is creating prejudices and biases.

Same with me, when I rate rate only a positive rating, according to mylot they have given me an alert that its not about us recieving a negative rating. They said if you rate negative to other posters its like a boomerang that returns to you and affects your reputation as well. So to be safe if i am not really pleased with the posts I read I just leave it and dont rate.
