My daughter has eczema and extremely dry dry. Lately her hair seems to be paying the price, her scalp is itchy, and she has scabs from itching behind her ears and at the base of her neck. I've reduced the washes due to the dry wintery weather (and our wood heat does not help), but her hair looks dry and brittle and thinner, it almost looks like she looseing it, but there are no bald patches, some one told me to use mineral oil, to help reduce the irration, and restore the oils in the hair itself, does anyone else have any ideas?

We just got back from the doctors, her skin is too sensitive for the medicated shampoo, which has tea tree oil, and steroids init, we placed some by her temple, within seconds she turned red from it. So We're tring straight mineral oil to massage into the scalp then pull out through the hair. to see if that'll help. My sister-in-law just recommended conditioning her hair with mayo. I may try that, her hair is so dry and brittle, its just sticking up all over the place.

I would def. use the mineral oil, sounds like a very good idea, I know my little one has very dry skin on his head, and very bad cradle cap, and we use baby oil on it and then brush it off, but he doesn't act like it really bothers HIM that much, just me. (: Careful with the mineral oil, we had to give some to the baby when he was constipated, and it got on my brand-new shirt and it was ruined. I didn't even think about it! ugh! (:

I would definitely talk to your doctor. I would actually have him check her thyroid. Hypothyroidism will cause dry skin and brittle hair. It may not be that, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to check.
