I just found out that I was 7 months pregnant last January, I never had an Idea that I was pregnant in anyway because my pregnancy test came out negative, before I found out that I was pregnant, I was a heavy smoker, i smoke 5 sticks to a pack and a half a day because i was also so stressed at work and depressed. I know that smoking during pregnancy can cause low birth weight, and now im scared if its possible that my child will have physical or mental defects as well. Can anyone help me clear my mind on this one, anyone who has had the same situation as I did, and have given birth, did your baby have any problems at all? please help thanks.

My Mother didn't smoke with me, but she did with the rest of my family, and don't worry, you smoke less than half of what she did... She smoked usually about a pack to a pack and a half a day with the rest of my siblings. She was always ALWAYS under stress, and never had an easy moment. The baby's going to be fine. I talked to several people when my husband and i started trying for a baby a while back about smoking while pregnant, and i came to this conclusion with lots of research... Yes, it can effect the birth weight, BUT, it seems to lower the chance of Asthma in babies and as they are growing, and i came to this conclusion from only people who smoked with some kids than others. Now also, if you decide to quit smoking WHILE pregnant, you can cause a serious problem for the child, because they have withdrawals a whole lot worse than you would, which would put strain and stress on the child in it's most important developing stages. Don't worry so much, try and ease yourself into a little better relaxation when you can and it'll be okay. don't worry so much hun, let it be.. It's going to be okay, and if there is a problem, deal with it when it comes rather than putting more stress on yourself and that little baby.

thank you for the reply, I IMMEDIATELY stopped smoking when i learned that i was pregnant...for about 3 weeks, and just last week i was so depressed, i smoked again the most i had was 6 sticks in 1 day, the next day i had 2sticks. then again, i stopped, i havent smoked since, i havent been smoking for i think a week and a half...I hope its not that bad.. so do you think i should at least continue smoking at least 1-2 sticks a week?

Don't worry, the important thing is that you quit NOW. You didn't know you were pregnant, so you can't be held accountable for smoking during your pregnancy. Don't feel guilty because you didn't know. At least now you have stopped and are taking better care of your body. Congrats on your pregnancy!

its good that you stopped smoking, you should catch up on all the vitamin supplements that you should take. My advice, have vitamin c 1000mg daily, this will help lessen the nicotine absorbed by your baby. And just pray that the baby turns out fine. God Bless.
